Bryant's also been hitting a lot of deep fly balls lately (most of them caught on the warning track). These next two months, I think he'll be more like the hitter most people were expecting before the season - dongs galore, not a huge obp, low avg, and obviously a ton of K's. I'm really expecting that power to explode soon.

arent really good hitters able to adjust on the fly and not guess?

I guess they just settle for a .275+ average out of the goodness of their hearts.

bryant misses fastballs right down the pipe because he isn't great at making contact which is why he strikes out a lot despite having excellent strike zone judgement

wonder if thats due to his swing or what the root cause is? is it something he can fix without having to tweak his swing? or is it just one of those things you say "it is what it is"? Does experience magically make him get more contact? I could understand with pitch recognition or approach at the plate, but the swing, thats something he has been doing so long for so many 1000s of times that i doubt its a matter of more "experience" with his swing.

root cause is hes only 23 years old lol

no thats not a root cause lol thats just an excuse.

all these super baseball experts on this msg board no one can explain what about a swing causes a guy to make low contact ? if it was experience he wouldnt have had a similar contact rate in the minors, wasnt it something like 67%?

His contact rate in MLB and AAA are very similar. He has some swing and miss in his game, which is part of the price you pay for someone with his obscene power. It's also a subtle benefit, because especially with his plate discipline, Bryant swinging through a 2-1 fastball is better than him rolling it over or popping it up.

so in theory say after the season is over he goes back home and works with his pops and whoever else he could potentially enlist (he could probably get anyone with his stature) in theory he could tweak his swing to reduce the uppercut just a smidge right?

He's #3 in MLB in K's, but #10 in walks. You take the good with the bad

You take them both and there you have

yeah but then he is more like Adam Dunn with better speed and D than Mike Schmidt

I think the better bet is the he takes a cue from Rizzo and works on a separate two-strike approach.

Incorrect. We were looking for "the facts of life".

Prime Adam Dunn with speed and plus defense at 3B would be one hell of a player.
