Both the Giants and Pirates are significantly better than this team right now and there's not much that can be done to change that.

The Giants rotation is 20% Bumgarner, 20% Chris Heston trying to keep up his current pace, and 60% mediocrity or worse. Don't be a 'today was bad so everything is bad forever' person.

Perhaps his use of "significantly" better was too complimentary toward the Giants, but I do think he's right that they are better. I'm more confident in them winning a playoff spot than the Cubs. And it has nothing to do with today.

Holy [expletive], everyone. I'm very sorry for the poor choice of wording. Can't handle meant for me just that it would kinda suck.

I wasn't scolding you in particular. Just wanted to highlight my own thoughts.

Everyone has their own recovery time. No one expects you to be over it instantly.

I hear ya. I'm sorry for lashing out. I'm just having a difficult time handling this right now. :D

All in good fun.

I really don't want to see any more #wearegood hashtags anymore

To be fair, the Cubs really haven't been earning that hashtag lately.

No worries. My point is, anyone who relies on a professional sports team to provide them with good feelings is going to have a bad time.

The use of "significantly" was overstating the truth, but the point that "there's not much than can be done to change that" isn't realistic, either.

There are plenty of pieces available to change this lineup. At the same time, there is plenty of reason to ride out this season with what we have and begin to put better pieces into place this offseason, while holding onto most of (if not all of) our valuable trade commodities.

i know you're new here, but you're going to have to learn that this type of rational and level-headed response is not appropriate for game threads.

1) Why was the wind howling in on a warm July afternoon?

2) I really dislike that guys like Rogers and Sharma are now saying things like "the postseason was a long shot before the season anyway, who cares!"

Lol, sorry? I'll try to be a little more belligerent next time.

is the worst part of being a moderator having to read every post in game threads instead of having most of the posters on your ignore list? blink twice for yes.

It's funny because you are one of only two posters I have on ignore, but I always get curious and click on it anyway. Not that you'll see this. *shrug*

Truffle's way of "ignoring" people is not unlike that of my 5 year old.

This team has been not at all fun since June. They've been doing a lot of things wrong and appear to be running out of gas. During this stretch, which has felt like an early death march, their record is a putrid 25-23. It feels good to care again, doesn't it? Then again, it kind of doesn't.

thats because deep down hardcore cubs fans are subconsciously masochistic

I wouldn't go as far as saying who cares but I don't see the need to panic over a bad stretch of baseball. Even if we fall short this season has been awesome overall and has reawakened my love of the Cubs. Big picture it's a young core that is 100 times more likely to get better than not so the lows to me aren't nearly as bad as they were in the years we had veteran win now teams

The "we're a year away anyways" excuse is really dumb when you look at what the Astros are doing.

That doesn't make any sense? Doing what exactly? I'd take our team over the next 10 years over theirs

I bet Astros' fans would take their team over the next 10 years than ours.

The vague future of unending awesomeness as some magical trump card in all franchise comparisons is as tiresome as [insert whatever you find really tiresome, me included].

I'd take the Cubs just based on the fact that Theo/Jed have been there before and the Cubs are going to be able to out-spend the Astros. But right now, the Astros are ahead of us while starting their rebuild right around the same time.
