7/17 Cubs (Hendricks) @ Braves (Teheran) 6:35 CDT, CSN

The 2nd half is upon us the Cubs are in pretty good shape, 7 games over .500 and a game up on the 2nd wildcard spot.

Additionally, they have one of the "easiest" 2nd half schedules in MLB. But as we all know too well, that often means nothing.

That said, I kinda like the Cubs bats to come out of the break red-hot and put this team on a nice run. Just a feeling.

Kyle Hendricks has been really good in his last three starts...

...Julio Teheran has been pretty good in his last two (but against Philly and Milwaukee)

Go Cubs!

Hammel is hurt, Richard is bad, and Arrieta pitched Sunday & will be blowing past his previous high in IP barring injury. Having Hendricks and Lester lead off this series is the right call, I guess you could have Lester throw first but I don't think it matters a whole lot.

Cubs record against teams currently under .500: 20-19

Cubs record against teams at or above .500: 27-21

Cubs records against teams at or above .500 who aren't satan's minions: 23-12

They don't have a losing record against any +500 team they've played except the Cardinals.

That's what makes the 2nd half exciting. They have to improve against the sub-500 teams. Right?

The thing I hate is their record in 1 run and extra innings games, and their minuscule run advantage. They should go on a run but those are making me a little worried about how good the run will be.

Just saw this posted on BN's Facebook wall. There should be no reason the Cubs shouldn't pull in close for the NL Central lead within the next month, or at least take a commanding lead in the wild card...

From now through August 27, the Cubs play 40 games.

28 are against teams under .500

2 are against a team at .500 (Detroit)

7 are against one of the teams chasing us (San Francisco)

3 are against Pittsburgh.

Plus the Giants have a 26 game stretch starting Aug 6 where they play the Cubs, Houston (2), St. Louis (6), Pittsburgh (4), Washington (4) and the Dodgers (3). And the Mets come out of the gate in the second half with 3 @ St. Louis, 3 @ Washington, 4 vs. LA Dodgers, 3 vs. San Diego, 3 vs. Washington.

in 2004, who was the cub that steve stone blamed for inciting the astros? was that barrett?

Correct. Barrett had some words for Oswalt, who threw at Barrett the week prior after giving a homer to Aramis (?) early in a Cubs blowout. I strongly remember Stone saying that the Cubs were on the verge of giving the Astros the knockout blow during that proceeding 4 game series, where the Cubs won the first game and then got roundly kicked in the balls.

sigh, that 2004 team

Can we have an all-offense no-defense lineup please.

I don't care if Schwarber has 5 passed balls and is terrible at framing, I want offense. I don't care if we lose.

I want offense.

i dont think schwarbers D is AS BAD as everyone says it is tho.

That said -- CUBBIES PUT UP 7 + tonight
