Meanwhile, the Pirates will never lose another game. Ever.

They're 5-6 since they swept the White Sox.

And now on the brink of sweeping Detroit on the road. 27-11 since May 22.

And the Cubs are on the brink of sweeping the Mets on the road; they're are 6-5 in the same span the Pirates went 5-6. It was a pretty lazy complaint.

Their 21-5 run is still plenty fresh in my mind. I should have made the comment two weeks ago but they're still very likely better than us.

OK, 98 pitches. No reason to push it - what if you need Arrietta to go deep next time? Give Ramirez the ball.

Cubs who have had a career defining game in the past 31 years:

Ryne Sandberg

Kerry Wood

Brant Brown

JONATHAN [expletive] HERRERA

LOL

I think Ryan O'Malley and Adam Greenberg both had career defining games

"Very likely?" Come on, man; they're, what, 2 games up on the Cubs after today? 2.5? Why would you think they're so much better because they won so many of their games in a 21-5 block as opposed to more spread out over the season so far?

Not based on projections.

BP has them at 88 wins and us at 87 with basically the same playoff odds (68.3 them, 67.6 us). Fangraphs has 91 wins for them and 87 for us with them at 84.4 for the playoffs and us at 64.2.

OK, now you absolutely have no excuse to let Jake pitch the 9th.

Agreed, we have a billion relievers, let someone who hasn't worked a while pitch one.

Actually, he's been pretty good (or at least tolerable) for a while now. He had a .733 OPS in June after a .789 in May.

And it can't be good for Ramirez' efforts to get back into form to sit for basically a week after his first outing.
