Let's throw him out of a moving car.

I'm pretty sure that's where he was going. The minor league contract is just the bait.

Lets throw him a minor league contract or something.

Can we wrap it around a brick first?

We could use his bat more than his arm.

He's hit well exactly one time since he was with the Cardinals. Of course, he Cardinaled it when he was there hitting .310/.326/.460 in 2005.

Pitching bats are really what this team is lacking though. Would put them over the top or something.

Wood will always have a spot on our roster because his is so good.

I still think Marquis was an undervalued asset in his time here.

Don't mistake that, I don't think he was particularly good. But he was a slightly below average back end of the rotation pitcher who contributed enough with his other skills as to be worth about what we paid him those first two years.

The problem with Marquis wasn't that he in particular was overpaid. The problem was more that Hendry was incapable of getting any cheap role players. And with a bench full of guys like Neifi, a bullpen full of guys like Eyre, and our back end of the rotation usually being a bit expensive like Marquis, we didn't have room left in the budget to spend it on guys who might make a real difference.

Oh, I didn't dislike him because he was particularly terrible; I just didn't like him because he was mediocre and they acted like his signing was some kind of big to-do and because he seemed like a real goon.

This is absolutely true. Hendry gets [expletive] upon over going overboard on Soriano, Fukudome, and Zambrano. But that's what big market teams do, although he did outbid himself on Soriano and Zambrano.

But a big problem was his going nuts on guys like Aaron Miles and John Grabow for no apparent reason. He was like an eBay user who didn't want to be bothered with the auction so he hit buy now everytime.
