something i somehow hadn't thought about at all was that if we get hamels we'll have both hammel and hamels in our rotation

is that weirder than two zimmermans on washington?

I literally think about it every time I think about trading for Cole.

Also, a 50-something douche in front of me on Saturday yelled, "hey Hammel, are you Cole's little brother? Your mom thinks he is better." I could only reply that there was no relation. He also said that maybe Kris Bryant could be half as good as Bryce when he grows up and that made me mad.

Yeah, I was thinking about when he got traded. I'm pretty sure he didn't have one at that point. He had one in his initial deal after the draft.

His initial deal was actually only a small one. He signed a second deal a year into his career that was the give up football and get a no trade deal. The Cubs did not pick up his options but obviously maintained control and got him back for cheaper his last two years, and I believe that also meant his no-trade clause was gone.

Yes, that's the one I meant.

hmm...the name is "big"? Hamels is only six letters. What are some BIG name players who might be available?

Can't imagine it'd be Hamels since our biggest trade chip (not counting Schwarber whom I doubt would be available for Hamels) just got hurt (also taking away the possibility of Castro being traded right now). Papelbon would make sense, though.

i was thinking both

That'd be fun.

Actually, the more I think about it, a fractured ring finger isn't something you worry about lingering or affecting future performance when the player comes back. And the Phillies probably don't give a [expletive] if Javy contributes anything in 2015. Maybe they don't even care about this injury.

Saltalamacchia gets Joe back to his comfort level of 3 catchers.

Does this guy have any credibility whatsoever? I don't even follow him and I thought I followed anyone worth a [expletive] for Cubs stuff.....

Edit:David read my mind and answered before I even asked

Cole is 4 letters, 4 Washington Avenue, the next clue is at the White House!

I followed several barstool guys, but BigCat was the only Chicago one I followed. Are there more Chicago Barstool guys I should follow?

Papelbon seems the overwhelming favorite to be the guy he's talking about here. Closer role in a bit of flux, getting to where teams start dealing, Theo/Jed very familiar with him, has a partial NTC, etc. Only other name aside from Hamels(which I really really doubt) that would potentially make sense is Cargo. And now that I look at it, Cargo doesn't even have an NTC.

I just follow BigCat as well, I know Carl does all their Cubs stuff. I'm pretty sure there's one other Chicago guy who does White Sox stuff, Dave I think his name is.

Didn't they shorten the window on how long you have to wait to trade a draft pick? Maybe part of the trade is dependent on who we draft tonight to be used as a PTBNL?

Yeah, he is basically Coghlan with a much, much better glove at this point.
