since everything great seems to happen to us, i'm gonna present this question

if starlin hits well the rest of the year and javy gets a significant amount of PA and mashes in a way that addresses some of our concerns about him, how seriously do we consider javy as next year's CF?

i don't want this lost on the bottom of the page :-"

just 20 Ks in his last 100 PA

What do the rest of the numbers look like in that same time frame?

probably amazing because he's been awesome lately

I'm going to guess that Starlin gets traded (almost) no matter what this offseason. That would open up 2B for Javy.

Even if they think he's fixed I think I'd prefer to re-sign Fowler for CF, then do some sort of revolving "platoon" between Baez, Castro, Coghlan and Soler in LF/RF, 2B.

i hate so much that the contact percentage numbers are gone, even if they weren't amazingly reliable

Meh, not enough dongs.

In all seriousness, looks like really solid progress and I'm sure the pop will get back to near normal levels once he completely figures the new approach out and is comfortable with it.

I won't be upset if they sign Price, but I'd rather invest that $200+M in other ways.

i'm getting tired of beating this drum, but with our transparent, dogmatic approach to prioritizing controlling the strike zone, it's simply unfathomable we'd ever trade Hendricks+ for the league leader in issuing walks

I'm not one of the Hendricks haters. But after signing Price, he'd probably be our "worst" starting pitcher. I was just connecting the dots between our interest in Ross at the deadline, our interest in trading Starlin, SD's possible interest in a SS, the last minute deadline rumor that Hendricks might have been traded, and the fact that he'd be the most upgrade-able part of the rotation.

Ross may be what you said, but he's also an upgrade over Hendricks.

A very minor one that's not really worth punting Castro and 3 years of team control(Hendricks v. Ross) to obtain.

I'm under the impression that Castro has negative value

Depending on how the year finishes out, right now, I'm OK with keeping the lesser of Castro/Baez as the Zobrist super utility role. I think theres room, and I think the clubhouse can handle them all.

Hypothetical:

STARTERS

3B Bryant

SS Russell

2B Baez/Castro

BENCH

SS/2B/3B/OF - Castro/Baez

3B/2B - LaStella

Lots of depth and insurance in the shitty event KB or Russell get dinged up, but I realize it is probably unlikely.

I think your assessment of Ross is pretty much way off and Hendricks wouldnt need to go to get Ross in the offseason.

Hendricks

FiP 3.45

GB% 50.5%

HR/9 0.86

K/9 7.79

WHIP 1.22

Ross

FiP 2.93

GB% 62.5%

HR/9 0.30

K/9 9.49

WHIP 1.38

Ross just needs better command really. But he is a much better pitcher than Hendricks... I dont see how comparing these numbers can be considered minor.

2/3 years of complete ineptitude. Am I wrong?

Bad people are more often than not.

David i was referring to Tiger's comment.

Saying 'Ross just needs better command' is not terribly dissimilar to saying 'Hendricks just needs to throw 5 mph harder'.
