glad he could squeeze in a start for the .873 OPS-ing catcher.

to be fair, if we're playing that game, ross is OPSing .785

cool. i think .873 is better than .785.

it is but both are very good and neither would be worth complaining about

All 3 catchers are hitting, the rotation should help keep Montero productive later in the season since he's had injury/overuse problems in the past, and this is a day game after a night game so you want to use 2 catchers for those 2 games anyway. What's the problem?

With Olt dead and La Stella apparently in a coma since we haven't heard from him in weeks(not to mention Denorfia pulling an Elijah Price), the third catcher is a decision of Ross/Castillo v. Lake/Szczur. If that's anger inducing to pick the catcher instead of the OF(who remains able to be called up, unlike dumping a catcher), then go for it I guess.

wouldn't say it's "anger inducing," but i'm generally opposed to carrying 3 catchers.

and they aren't only doing it now out of necessity due to the dearly departed olt and lastella (rip), they've been doing it all season.

i do agree that if they all continue to hit like this for the remainder of the season, you live with the inflexibility it creates defensively.

Arrieta vs. a Cards lineup sans Holliday AND Carpenter is the kind of game this team needs to win.

Amazed that Bryant didn't get doubled off, maybe more amazed Peralta didn't even try.

Did it look to anyone else that as Lackey was waiting for the ball to be thrown back by Molina after the Bryant walk, that he said "piece of [expletive]"?

Bryant is 6th in the NL in walks, with at least 8 less games than everybody ahead of him and 11 less than #1

I didn't see it, but considering he missed his spot by 3 feet, I imagine he was muttering to himself or the ball/mound.
