Don't worry guys, I just picked up Carlos Martinez for my fantasy team and my fantasy teams usually stink so we'll light him up.

I'm excited about this series but I'm also really excited about the Bulls/Cavs series so I'm not sure how I'm going to handle the remote tonight.

Wood/Martinez

Hendricks/Lyons

Lester/Lynn

Arrieta/Lackey

We've got advantages in the pitching matchup both Tuesday and Thursday with Lester pitching the other, so getting this game would put them in really good position to get 3 of 4.

Two things to watch out for with Martinez, one is to see if he's throwing enough early strikes to get ahead of hitters. If he is, then we'll likely see a lot of his changeup, which has been a good 3rd pitch for him to date and the type of pitch the offense has struggled with(looking at you, rookies).

how do you exploit a FIP?

dongs, and getting your hits in succession

Serious question, though. What's the largest difference between a low ERA and a high FIP that a pitcher has ended up with? 1.73 to 4.45 seems like an astronomical gap for those two statistics to coexist, an obviously it will correct itself as the season goes on, but I don't know if I've ever recalled a gap this large at any point in any season since I've been paying attention to FIP.

Gonna be flipping during breaks of the Bulls game, which means that the Cubs will look awesome and hit a bunch of dongs but oh well.

this series should be a good test of my "cubs play to the level of the competition" thesis, which posits that the cubs will play to the level of their competition
