Wada seems real sharp tonight. Right now he's at 7 IP, 2H, 2R, 0ER, BB, 5K.

Especially since he started the game E-4, FC, 1B, 1B, WP.

Alcantara is 2 for 2 with 2 BB. Baez is 1 for 3 with no K.

In non-Iowa news:

Vogelbach has a walk, double, and triple(!)

Corey Black was a bit erratic but had 10 K/2 BB in 5.2 IP

Zagunis had a HR and a walk

Torres went 1 for 3 with a walk

Don't know why we can't get Schwartz up to play LF he couldn't be any worse than Coglhan/denforia/lake

There might be an opening at 3b soon.

Why on earth would you say that?

Bryant is flopping, duh.

Is that meant for green font? Serious question, because I can't tell these days.

Either way: bad opinion/bad joke.

What is the plan with Wada? Since he's starting at Iowa, are the Cubs looking at him as a viable option for the rotation in the bigs? Are they looking to possible replace Hendricks (or Wood). with him being 34, he's not a long-term option. And if he was gonna be a bullpen guy, why have him start at Iowa?

I'm not 100% sure what the plan is for Wada(I would be surprised if he jumped to the MLB rotation though), but I don't think it's unusual that he's starting at Iowa. He's recovering from an injury that had him shelved for several weeks, so giving him more innings to get sharp makes sense. It's also far easier to just not use him as a starter at the MLB level than it would be to plan on him as a reliever and then change course if the need arises.

If I had to guess, I'd say that Wada is coming for Coke's job. Rosscup has pretty clearly passed Coke in Maddon's eyes, and while having 2 lefties isn't a luxury, having the 2nd lefty be someone who can eat multiple innings in long relief is one. Plus you can make a pretty compelling argument that Wada is simply better for a LOOGY role than Coke too. Even if you lose Coke in the process, it's not a big loss when similar LOOGY flyers like Russell and Ortiz are already at Iowa.

The wild card here is how the front office and Maddon view Jackson. With Straily traded, and Wada and Turner(and Johnson and Beeler to lesser extents) hurt, at least part of the reason Jackson is on the roster is as rotation insurance. Even though Jackson has been very good overall and only had one truly bad outing out of 6, they've hesitated to give him more meaningful innings. That could be out of caution since they might need him to eat 4 IP some day as long man, or it could be that they don't trust him and he's getting shipped out the moment they have a good enough 6th starter healthy.

Everyone is flopping until proven otherwise.
