i was at a bar after work watching the game yesterday and a very drunk older gentleman started talking very loudly at me about the cubs. he needed to tell me all about how he was a cardinal fan but he rooted for the cubs second because he hated the reds, brewers, and pirates. it was one of those situations i couldn't really get out of and just found the most awkward. i placated the man and went along with him, and after he few minutes he proved himself reasonably knowledgeable if ever more inebriated. everything seemed to be going fine until pedro strop entered the game and the man shouts "OH AND OF COURSE THE FUCKIN BLACK GUY HAS TO HAVE HIS HAT ON CROOKED." this was the push i finally needed to step away and pretend that i was having a very serious conversation with my friend.

talking about baseball with people you don't know can be even worse.

I think he means he's not African-American specifically (which I'm sure you know), just phrased very poorly.

Went to a AAA game last night, and the leadoff hitter walked his first 3 times, then had 2 singles.

Lady next to me says "That guy has been walked so many times that his average jumped from .298 to .301!"

/facepalm

I figured this fits well here. I recently went to a Royals game for a company event with my wife's company. It was Cueto's first start in KC and he threw a CG shutout. We missed the Royals score pretty much all their runs in the first because the guy bringing the tickets for 40+ people was late. Then I don't think anybody even realized Cueto was pitching until the crowd went bonkers for him when he came out for the ninth.

Then we went to a semi-pro game with my company. One of my coworkers was trying to convince everyone that he could hit off the pitching in this league. I know for a fact that he cannot. And of course he kept giving his (wrong) opinions about everything that was happening on the field. When he finally claimed he could hit a HR into the bullseye of a sign that would give the player who hit the bullseye $100,000 one of my other coworkers said, "Back in '82, I used to be able to throw a pigskin a quarter mile."
