No. They're watching his innings pretty closely and he will probably be pitching out of the pen for most, if not all of the year.

It is a little strange for him to have one appearance in 5 games, but I guess they'll be keeping him on roughly starters rest and pitch him for 2-3 innings per appearance? Seems strange to not just have him start those games and throw that. I dunno, I stopped expecting him to be a starter a while ago, so it doesn't bother me.

Having him pitch 2-3 innings in a relief role on a starters schedule seems incredibly odd to me, unless the goal is to have him be a piggy back type guy. Presumably they'd get him to the point where he can pitch every 2-3 days instead of 1 of 5, if they view him as a reliever.

Best guess is that they want to keep him on a starter's schedule, but not burn through his innings limit too quickly so he's a potential relief option for later in the season. We should get a slightly better idea in his next outing or 2, he might have only gone 2.1 because he wasn't terribly effective or as a way of easing him into the season too.

From the comments I've heard, it seems like they still view him as a starter, but are trying to limit his innings early so that they can pile them on late, if need be. My impression is that they feel he may be ready to take over as fifth starter for a potential playoff push and they want to keep that option open down the stretch.

More just gulf coast weather in general. It's been raining here in Mobile for the last 4 days, and will continue to rain for another 3-4 days. I'm not talking like it's raining a little bit here and there at inconvenient times. It's been raining each day for like 60-70% of the entire 24 hour cycle. It's been [expletive] annoying.
