Why does Ross get that AB with 3 catchers on the roster

 

Because the pitcher's spot is right after him and the bench is short with La Stella out and Olt probably out too.

 

I could live with that line of thought of the Cubs were up 1 run, but down 2 he has no business at the plate. You worry about the bench when the game is tied or if you are winning.

He'll be fine. If he's still pitching like this in June you can start to worry. Remember that he basically missed 2 spring starts when he was shut down with a dead arm.

With TLS and Olt out you have a 3 man bench, which is closer to a 2 man bench because of catchers. In a close game you can't sacrifice one of them in that situation.
