Yep, railing on about how he's not "engaged" and is "prone to mental lapses" etc.

They're using that play as a segue to talk about how Castro is likely to get moved off SS for Russell. Never mind that there's approximately zero SS in the world with better range into the OF than Castro.

Not even 2 1/2 innings in and i'm ready to break [expletive]. Didn't take ESPN long to talk about how Addison Russell is the SS of the fuure and Castro should be shunned.

Oh give me a break. He's not comfortable throwing the ball to bases? American league pitchers have to field to you know.

I just love how that came right on the back of Kruk slobbering all over railing Castro for "mental lapses." "Lester just must be uncomfortable throwing to bases!!!" Like it couldn't possibly be a mistake.

I'm surprised Lester was able to cover first on that play since he's spent his whole career in the American League where they just hit home runs and drink beer.

Why didn't he throw over then?

In short, an abundance of caution. There were zero outs, he's already moving towards first, he's left handed so he has to wheel around completely one way or another, basically the same reason every 10 year old is trained to go to 1st in that situation.

He was almost stumbling towards 1st base, so the throw to 3rd would not have been near as easy as Schilling was making it sounds.

Based on Wilson's grasp of physics, I'm assuming he was thinking that the ball would have carried Lester to 3B if he had just let it take him.

He was moving towards third.

LaStella won't get all the way because of the power and flair for the game, but I bet he fills the gap from Valbuena's terrific discipline/at-bats in my heart

...

He was in no way moving towards third base. The opposite, because he was moving(stumbling, as Tryptamine notes) towards first.

Other than Olt, the Cubs have done a good job laying off the low curve. Hopefully Wainwright hangs one, knowing he has to bring it up a little.

Schilling has the Cubs pegged at around 80 wins this season. GTFO with that, can't wait until the Cubs prove him so wrong.

he said .500, which is about right
