@ESPNChiCubs: Baez optioned to Iowa. Bryant and Russell sent down as well, per Cubs.

Wow, did not think they'd actually do it. Hopefully he takes it in stride and picks up where he left off in AAA, I'm of the mind that his problems aren't really going to be fixed(or show up as strongly) in Iowa, so the faster he can show he's able to get another shot the better.

Burying the lede a bit?

not really, bryant to minor league camp was a fait accompli.

Baez's situation was in question

I think he meant the team's intent, not CT's wording. Give everyone else something else to talk about so the Bryant argument doesn't loop back through the media in full force again.

Yeah...I'm not sure how much he can learn at AAA, but maybe he just needs reps at an easier level to implement some changes in approach and/or mechanics.

Kinda would rather he get to work daily with Maddon and Mallee though.

You mean, like they intentionally optioned Baez so they could try and get away with sending Bryant down and nobody would notice?

Not that one choice influenced the other, just that they're intentionally being announced at the same time.

Jeez I'll change the title.

uhhhhh, no you did it wrong.

Baez was option, the other two are not on the 40 man roster and were not optioned, they were simply sent to minor league camp. That is why the media phrased it the way they did.

Yep, not that I think it'll affect much, but every second spent discussing Baez's demotion is one not spent on Bryant.

I do not buy that. It's not like they are lacking for seconds to discuss inane subjects.

So La Stella at second and Olt at third for a few weeks I guess?

Does this at all affect whether Bryant plays 3B or LF when he comes up, if Javy isn't back yet?

rookie mistake. this is why we need megathreads. you guys can't even properly title a thread.

in related news, ctcf was optioned to bleedcubbieblue. reached for comment, tim said "he's developed some bad habits, maybe brought on when i promoted him too quickly. hopefully with a little time down there, he'll be able to fix his issues."

I think this sets the stage for Alcantara to be the default 2B, for as much as we like to compare him to Zobrist, Zobrist is a guy with several seasons with 110, 120 games at 2B.

Until Bryant comes up though, I really have no idea. I would think against LHP you'd want Olt at 3B and Alcantara at 2B, but against RHP any permutation of those 3 would not surprise me, save for Olt at 2B.

Yellon would end up banning me within five minutes.
