Baez is never coming back.

Russell 4 ever.

Agreed Russell is the SS of the future, not mad with Castro at 2b, but if Baez was to come back he would have to push Bryant to the OF, Baez glove is no question. With the way Coghlan (while im not a big fan) has started off this year, Baez will have to make some tremendous improvement on his contact rate and pitch recognition to even think about getting back as a starter. Considering his personal situation its gonna take some really strong motivation to improve enough to be relevant in 2015.

Unless of course Castro/and or Coghlan is traded -- but lets be honest while Castro isnt the best, he does come through timely with the bat.

y'all would bitch about theo too and now he's brought the awesome and you want on board. Guess what? No room at the [expletive] inn for you.

Plenty of room for extra white sox fans if you guys want to head on over there.

really sucks that this [expletive] will make me enjoy it less if/when the cubs are actually good.

OH NO SIR YOU DONT GET TO SAVOR THIS WORLD SERIES BECAUSE YOU DIDNT LOOOOOOOVE ALL THOSE LAST PLACE FINISHES LIKE A REAL FAN

has nothing to do with enjoying where the team finished. theo had a plan and he's executed it pretty [expletive] perfectly, if you ask me. would it have been cool to be competitive before now? yes. but I'm not sure that was an option, and I'm 100% certain that theo has more insight into how feasible that was than i do.

i think kyle has worn off on the board as a whole. y'all just love being miserable about something.

this team will likely at least be in contention for the playoffs, though it's probably 1 more year from being really, really good. but it'll be a fun year to watch with some great pitchers, a solid back of the bullpen, and some fantastic young players - who are actually good enough to be in the majors now. and we start 4-2, leading the nlc, and we're going to spend several pages (in the Kris Bryant love thread) burying a 22-year-old middle infielder who just crushes the ball. He's not perfect, he might never make it, of course, but he's 22 with an .880 career minor league ops. there can be some middle ground between fellating a player and burying him. stop being so [expletive] dramatic.

What a weird time for a "you guys hate everything" rant As the entire board is euphoric over the 4-2 start. NOT GOOD ENOUGH. SAY BAEZ WILL BE AWESOME TOO OR GTFO

It's ok GR, Theo didn't draft Baez, so you can still keep your enlightened fan card if you don't like that he Ks twice an AB.

again - stop being dramatic. try just a little. no one says you have to love baez.

also, love that this is "euphoric" for this board. pretty much brings home my point about loving being miserable about something.

Not to get off topic but is the consensus that he'll make him debut at the start of the road trip or will they delay for sake of appearances? Has Bryant played any games in LF?

The general practice has been to wait 2-3 days, and I'm assuming they'll probably do that here unless another infielder is maimed.

I don't think he's been playing much LF.

start of the road trip would be a delay for appearances sake

don't think he has played any in LF at iowa as of yet

Maybe when Baez returns they'll give him a couple games out there just to see what that looks like in case they decide they can't live without Mike Olt at 3rd.

there's no way they delay his call-up

Theo's even being amusingly circuitous with his roster management:

"oh man, our bullpen is just so taxed right now"

(cut to Friday)

"wow, i just noticed we have no healthy third basemen..."

he dgaf, nor should he, really

what would ever we do without his .579 career OPS and 38% Ks?

Has it been determined whether Jesse Rogers was correct that a play-in game at the end of the season would extend the "season" for service time purposes? Because if so, there's no way he comes up on Friday.

Unless they changed the rule this off-season and didn't tell anybody, he's wrong. Tons of examples from history that show it didn't work that way those years.

I've assumed all along it'd be next Friday, but the injuries may force him up for the Pirates series.

the roster is kind of a mess right now...13 man staff and a bench of 2 catchers, szczur and an injured/blind/terrible olt. gross.

they pretended they were short in the bullpen so they wouldn't have to call up valaika or whoever only to send him down 5 days later when the service time thingy passed. now they can pretend that they finally decided olt wasn't healthy enough and it's time to call up bryant...oh, what's that you say...now we get to keep him for another season? why we hadn't even noticed.

Isn't service time about days not games?

Yes, but technically the regular season is extended by a day for that game. But service-time is only awarded for "regularly scheduled" days, and Jesse Rogers can't be bothered to be right before he publishes.
