Lake Dawson would be interesting. I remember him playing at ND in the 90s, so he's pretty young (looked up he's 42). 3rd round pick of the Chiefs at WR. I've heard a lot of good things about him as a front office/player personnel person, but don't know if a GM job would be over his head.

Also of note is 3 of those 4 are black guys. Interesting.

Yea I noticed that too.

Regarding his credentials as a GM... His executive rolls for the past 7 years are equal or surpass what Ballard has had for the past 2-3, so he's at least above him in regards to experience.

Another interesting note about Newsome is that he was a part of the HC search committee for Harbaugh.

MMmmmmmmm, executive rolls.

Lol the executive rolls are much better than the scouting rolls. They come fresh from the oven.

we're going to get stuck with defensive minded everything again arent we?

had our chance at an offensive guy and pulled a worst case scenario. sigh.

And into the QB wilderness again.

Matt Miller mock draft has the Bears taking Shane Ray at 7: http://m.bleacherreport.com/articles/2312440-2015-nfl-mock-draft-matt-millers-post-nfl-season-projections/page/8

Landon Collins at 6, Thompson at 9, Stanley at 11.

I like Ray a lot. He's a mean bastard with speed. He would be a freaking beast in a 3-4 set-up.

How does he compare to his distracting former teammate?

Slightly less gay.

Re: Ray, in terms of talent, he's a bit closer to Aldon Smith than Sam, to use Mizzou DEs as a scale. Not quite the physical freak that Smith was/is, but very good against run and pass and more than a pure speed rusher.

god I am going to get sick hearing about how much the Bears need to get back to Bears football and run the ball while relying on defense to win games.

Haha...listening to the Denver guy on The Score?

They need to get better at football mostly, but they should strike a better balance- we just don't have to go all the way back to 1985 - which many want.

It's funny all the meatballs who want to see the 46 D installed as a base defense.

Ok never mind, no relation to Ozzie Newsome...

I think I'd go Ross, then everyone else is bundled together for now.

According to the internet Newsome was born in bloody England, which is even further away from the NFL than Canada. Screw that.

I get that this is a joke, but you do know he played 10 years in the NFL, right?

yes

heard it all yesterday and I've heard it from multiple people outside the media as well

its freaking everywhere

I was at the Devils game last night and overheard random dudes talking about it and they weren't even bears fans

Damn it, Jets.

@RapSheet: #Jets are expected to make a significant push for #Ravens assistant GM Eric DeCosta, per source. Many have tried for the respected executive

I'd take the level 85 bears d again. Doubt we'd get it, but I would

Yea but you wouldn't expect to get that level while constantly having 8 men in the box (ie the 46 D) which is a favorite among the meatballs.

Plus that's less Bears model than it is Ravens or Steelers model. At least they've accounted for lhalf a dozen SB appearances since the Bears last won. We don't get to name the model after us while being like third best at it.

So, having a great D would suck?

Who said that?

Possibly of note, those three guys were the three names recommended to Accorsi by John Wooton, the chairman of the Fritz Pollard Alliance - which promotes racial diversity in front offices. Wooten told the Tribune those were the names he recommended, so, it is not clear how high they are on Accorsi's list, and it is entirely possible Accorsi has a significantly different list. Not sure how much this has been discussed before but Marc Ross came to the Giants after Accorsi left.

I think he had two stints with New York and the first would have been under Accorsi and the second right after he was gone.

His first stint was a "PR training camp intern".

Accorsi was asst GM at the time so the odds are they met, but it's questionable how much of a working relationship they have.

Relying on that D to win games would suck.

I don't think you have to do that. In Cutler, Jeffery, Forte, Bennett you have a 1-4 talent punch that should have an offense in the top third. And yes, I think we trade Marshall for picks. I'd even be open to trading Cutler for a 3rd and Mettenberger given the impetus for rebuilding. Then, you draft Fortes replacement, Oline, and a slew of D studs in the next 2-3 years

Or, is there a market for Forte?

I'd look to trade Forte but no idea if there is a market.

Also, by the time you build up an elite defense that offensive core is done and/or gone.

Yes. Buying into the whole defense and running game and bring back Kyle Orton for game manager frightens me because the meatballs dont know what that means.

TEs can be replaced. RBs too. Jeffry is young. The big question mark is always QB. That's the big one to draft if you can't get a Mettenberger

I think we have enough young talent on O to not worry about that
