College Football - Championship Week (Dec. 6)

Just saying, the schedule matters, and FSU's sucked

They played Florida, Notre Dame, and Oklahoma State in non-conference. Normally that would be a tough slate of games.

And when they plan these games 7-10 years in advance they could never predict that.

FSU has wins over Louisville, Miami, ND, and Florida. Those are good wins. They also beat georia tech and Clemson. Those are very good wins.

It's been grading FSU on a different scale. Bama lost a game, barely beat arkansas and absolutely should have lost to LSU. Oregon was tied after 55 minutes of football with Wazzu, and lost at home to a flawed team. TCU lost to baylor, needed a last second field goal to beat WVU by 1 and was losing to kansas by 10 late in the third quarter.

The committee has painted themselves into a ridiculous corner by having TCU 3 and FSU 4 going into this week. Now they need OSU or Baylor to jump TCU but not FSU and I'm not sure how they will justify it.

There is a time honored tradition that head is the uninpeachable trump card. It would suck if that was not honored. Between Baylor and OSU there really isn't a right answer. They are tied.

I think the justification would be: each week the rankings are based on "if the season ended today". TCU beat a 2-10 team at home, FSU beat the #11 team at a neutral site and OSU gave the #13 team a historic upset with their third string QB starting at a neutral site. This TCU's SOS is diminished and FSU (which was never going to be left out being the only undefeated team in the country) and OSU had major boosts to their SOS.

There's no "jumping over" anybody. That's not how this works. TCU being 3rd last week has no bearing on this week.

Well that's stupid. We have had rankings for decades and they by and large conform to certain principals and paramount among them is that last weeks rankings matter. If they don't matter they shouldn't rank them.

And if in their eyes TCU should be ranked higher than FSU last week, than how could they justify that changing based on this week? TCU abused Iowa state as comprehensively as possible.

You're right, the committee absolutely should not be releasing rankings each week, but ESPN would never allow them to keep the rankings hidden until the season is over. Imagine if the NCAA basketball committee started listing their #1 seeds once a week in January. Everything that this committee has done has been a joke so far.

This is working out for the burn it down scenario. The ap has 4-6 in basically a statistical tie. Personally I feel like Baylor ahead f TCU is a no brainer but it's impossible to select between Baylor and OSU. It's even more impossible for the committee to justify a top 4 at this point based on their previous rankings. Again they cannot justify FSU over TCU this week if TCU was over FSU last week.

Now if they "honor" the H2H, how could they move TCU behind FSU and/or OSU.

It would be hilarious if OSU passes FSU and TCU stays in. That's kinda what in hoping for from a fun to watch the anguish standpoint.

I'm gonna change my opinion I like this playoff. I really hope they don't increase it to 6 or 8. This committee however stupid their series of rankings, they delivered probably the two games I want to see most.

I just want to see a playoff where every team in the league has a legit chance to play for a title. 8 teams, power 5 conference champions, 2 wild cards and highest rated team outside power 5. That gives a little extra meaning to winning the 1 seed too as you will likely play a weaker team.

Now can we get TCU and Baylor vs the mississippi teams and auburn vs MSU ? Are those stil possible? Those are three games I want to see.

Yeah that'd be nice.

Your right. Body of work shouldn't matter.

Apparently it doesn't, or else TCU wouldn't have jumped FSU last week.

And either way body of work changes week to week. Beating Oklahoma when they were ranked #4 in the country looked better than where they ended up, etc.

Committee had a tough job and two schools were going to be ticked off regardless. I think Baylor should have been in but it's not like they or TCU were clearly better than OSU. And ultimately, I don't feel too bad. All three teams had their shot and they all lost a game this year. Baylor laid an egg on the road at WVU and played a terrible out of conference schedule. TCU was up 21 with 10 minutes left and blew it. OSU blew a game at home to VaTech. You lose a game and you leave it up to the committee.

The playoff should be fun. Early lines on Sportsbook are Oregon -8, 71.5 O/U and Bama -9.5, 58.5 O/U.

The end result is right in my opinion but the committee mishandled how they got there.

Disagree. OSU should not be in.

Because of a game three months ago?

Considering it's part of this season ignoring that game makes zero sense. No league ignores early season games when determining playoffs because that's dumb.
