Week 11: Vikings (4-5) @ Bears (suck), Noon CBS/780

The Bears franchise is so [expletive] stupid. Again, business as usual with no staff changes. Wow.

Nobody should be surprised by this. Annoyed? I guess. But surprised? No.

Yep. Few NFL teams make changes midseason (this isn't the hitting coach on a disappointing baseball team) and the Bears (at least to me) seem to be even more conservative than most franchises.

I don't get the idea that few teams make changes midseason. Is there some sort of list proving this to be the case?

Seems to me at least one or two teams fire their head coach during the season every year, and that doesn't even take into account coordinator or position coach changes.

I think the article I read last night said 22 in the past 15 years or something. Almost all of these happen very early in like after a 0-4 start or very late with the interim getting 3-4 games.

Bears are one of 5 teams never to fire a HC mid-season. Not sure about coordinators.

Thanks. I admittedly was only going off perception/memory.

I think Marc Trestman should be fired right now but that's really asking for too much but at the very least, you can't stick with the status quo. Ridiculous.

I'm not really sure why that is asking for too much.

This is his 2nd year and they have taken a huge step back. This isn't a disappointing team losing games they should win. This is an awful team getting obliterated at a historical rate. If they were capable of being mediocre it may be asking too much, but this team is playing worse than any team in the league right now.

FWIW, Matt Bowen, Matt Miller and Andrew Siciliano are tweeting their confusion at Trestman not making any coaching changes. I guess they're all meatballs.

Bowen is one of the least meatbally former player turned-reporter that's in the industry right now. Surprising to see him so vocal about the lack of accountability.

I'm talking about firing him in the middle of the season. Coaches don't get fired in the middle of the season, if it would have happened, it would have happened during the bye.

Well, I'll say this. 99 times out of 100 the touchy-feely stuff is crap. But this team has totally given up due in part to lack of leadership.

Yeah, they could easily replace Tucker and one his assistants can run the defense for the last 7 games to see if that makes a difference. I get that you probably can't fire Trestman or Kromer at this juncture, but Pasqualoni knows the system and could call the plays. Edited by RynoRules

I mean, that's simply not true. Coaches do get fired in the middle of the season.

Well, this IS a historically bad football team.

Don't care too much what Miller and Sicilano say about management/coaching stuff (I really like Miller's draft stuff) but when Bowen says it, that's completely different.

And that leadership seems to be extremely touchy-feely.

I wonder if we can trade with Tampa Bay to get Lovie back.

Lovie sucks, he's 1-7 in Tampa Bay right now and they have all kinds of problems. It's time to get a real coach.

Trestman literally just said he's going to watch practice film to determine why they cant translate practice performance to games.

Holy. [expletive].

I'd also like the people who are so sure that assistants don't get fired mid-season to show me the proof. That kind of things happens every season, IIRC. The fact that the Bears don't do it doesn't mean its necessarily a bad idea. The inverse may true.

Bruce Arians. Oh wait, not good enough for Emery.

This dude is the worst.

"Trestman isn't sure why practice field success isn't carrying over to actual games"

Hint: Maybe your practice hasn't been as "successful" as you think it has been.

We were 10-6, had by far the best roster of all the teams that had fired coaches, Bruce was begging for the job. And Emery chose Trestman.

No kidding. I don't understand how anyone could think any firings right now would do anything besides just making meatballs feel better.

I would be fine with being treated like a meatball that needs some soothing.

What would actually be soothed? You're just going to slide a placeholder from the same incompetent system into the job. It's not like they'd hire anyone worth a damn halfway through the season.

Potential HC's (obviously not all of them, but to make it easy):

Quinn (Seattle)

Roman (San Fran)

Gase (Denver)

Horton (Cleveland)

Bowles (Arizona)

Your preference?

I'd roll the dice on Gase. He'd need a strong DC, but I love his pedigree coaching under McCoy and Fox.

Somebody who fucked up the Bears would get publicly shamed and fired for it, that would be cool.
