Week 11: Vikings (4-5) @ Bears (suck), Noon CBS/780

Kreutz didn't have to have the goal of making a player better, he just harassed people if they fucked up and that served a purpose.

It's better to be seen as cruel than as a fool, which is what we have right now.

for years, Kreutz WAS the offensive line. i remember watching him block his man, the guard's man, and then pull and block the tackle's guy on the same play. he knewfootball, and that commanded respect.

no one is saying he's a "Patton-like leader", he's more a Gregor Clegane, Vargo Hoat or Maelys the Monstrous. But he was good at what he did, others knew it, and he kept the offense in line.

The offense [expletive] sucked, so I don't know why you want to keep giving him credit for that.

yeah, those Chad Hutchinson/Craig Krenzel/Jim Miller/Shane Matthews/Cade McNown/Jonathan Quinn-led teams should have been powerhouses. Kreutz was a center, not a QB, but he did manage to keep everyone from melting down while they were terrible, they even made the playoffs while his QB managed the game, bit by bit.

it's easy for people to give more credit to urlacher for being the leader on that team, the defense had actual guys who could play football.

i remember back in 2005 after losing to the Browns, Mike Brown says publicly, "we suck." Bears win 8 in a row and win the division. that's a [expletive] cathartic moment from a team with players and an identity they had to defend. this team has no personality, no identity.

You are insane.

Kreutz couldn't make the offense better, let alone the defense.

yeah, i'm insane to say we would be better with an all-pro offensive lineman added to the roster, [expletive] off.

its more important to recognize center is not where you want your best lineman and a big improvement there isn't going to help your team much

FWIW, I didn't mean he was a terrible player. I meant he was a terrible leader. All bluster. He was a leader for the sake of saying he was leading, not to accomplish anything meaningful. He had some good years as a lineman, however, him being the best lineman on the team was neither good for any other lineman, or the team. Kreutz was the type of guy that said we dip our balls in the rookies mouths because somebody dipped their balls in his mouth when he was a a rookie, not because he thought it helped the team grow together.

As a Lions fan, and after the Schwartz years, how much fun is our misery?

Just fire Kreutz and Urlacher already, so we can discuss this week's game.

@mikecwright: Chicago Bears signed WR B.J. Cunningham and G Antoine McClain to the practice squad.

"the Schwartz years" probably doesn't place in the top 10 of a Lions fans misery list

i don't feel much schadenfreude about the Bears this season; you're not Ohio State / Cardinals / UK hoops
