we don't have the overall capacity of those teams yet, but with our roster construction and payroll situation we should have similar wherewithal when it comes to the moves we need/want to make.

This. Our committed payroll is around $60 million, even if PTR won't let us eclipse $100m that's close to $40m to spend. Rogers is just trying to rile up the masses to pitchfork and torch status. This is about as nothing a comment as Theo can make.

We have no idea how much the cubs have to spend. Theo sounds as disappointed as anyone.

It's not like PTR owes the fans anything. If he wants to continue slashing payroll and hoarding treasure like a god damn dragon he's definitely entitled.

I mean, he spent big on Joe Maddon, he paid him nearly half of what he paid EJax.

@Ken_Rosenthal: Sources: #SFGiants turning aggressive on Headley. Unclear how this relates to pursuit of Lester, if at all. Solid interest in Headley.

That makes a lot of sense to me.

Theo: “I think there will be a time when we’re the feared team in free agency. We’re prob not at that time yet."

Hopefully there will come a time when they're no longer finding new ways to spin that sentiment each winter. I thought we were at that time. Oh well. Maybe Jake Peavy will put his money where his mouth is and give us a discount. And ideally be a bit more durable than a sack of Swarovski.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that Korean shortstop Jung-Ho Kang will be posted next week.

There are doubts as to whether Kang can play shortstop in the majors, but he has a very intriguing bat. The 27-year-old had a sensational 2014 campaign in the Korean Baseball Organization, batting .354/.457/.733 with 36 doubles, 39 home runs, and 115 RBI in 116 games for the Nexen Heroes. He should fetch Nexen a pretty decent-sized posting fee.

Never heard of him. Nice numbers.

There's not a lot of data points to compare, but the most recent is that some 4th OF/AAAA type (the name escapes me) went to Korea and put up similar numbers a year or two ago. So that's probably a decent anchor for comparison.

Any estimate on what numbers like that translate to?

A few reference points: In the most recent KBO season, Eric Thames and Felix Pie put up lines of .343/.422/.689 and .323/.376./524, respectively.

Pie better not get comfy with Baez breathing down his neck.

Pie was an infielder, right? I don't even remember.

The Brewers may look to move Parra, he's projected to earn ~$6 million in arbitration. So if they are just looking to trade him to clear salary I'd definitely be interested. Maybe would only take a guy or two out of the Szczur/Beeler/Villanueva/Dunston Jr. type prospect tier.

isnt Parra not good?

He's only 27, considered one of the best defensive OF in all of baseball, he was only at a .1 fWAR last year but 3 previous years he was at 4.6, 1.8, 2.6. He wouldn't be a bad 4th OF, platoon partner for Alcantara in CF or Ruggiano in LF, or a late inning defensive replacement (especially for Bryant when he first comes up).

Parra would be a near perfect addition. We appear to be more concerned about RH backup OF, for some reason, hopefully that doesn't end up being reality.
