What about a 6 team playoff where the top 2 get a bye?

I've seen this thrown around a lot lately. It would add some emphasis on the top 2, which I like. I do feel like 4 is a terrific number, though.

If you beat three good teams in a row to win a title I don't have much issue with you being crowned champ. Especially in a sport where so many teams have different schedules.

How often are 3 loss teams competing to be in the top 8?

Auto-bids for the Power 5 (which is an even worse idea, but it's going to happen). They're not expanding to 8 without them. Almost every league has 3-loss teams at least kind of in the race for the title, especially with the unbalanced schedules in the SEC and B1G.

Current leaders:

ACC: 7-1 Duke, 8-0 FSU

B1G: 7-1 MSU/7-1 OSU, 7-1 Nebraska

B12: 7-1 KSU

P12: 8-1 Oregon, 7-1 ASU

SEC: 7-2 Mizzou, 8-0 MSU

LOOK AT ALL THE 3 LOSS TEAMS RUINING COMPETITIVE FOOTBALL.

2012: 8-5 Wisconsin (yes, I realize they only got there because OSU and PSU were ineligible)

2011: 9-3 West Virginia, 10-3 Clemson

2010: 8-4 Connecticut

2008: 9-4 Virginia Tech

2005: 8-4 Florida State

2004: 8-3 Pittsburgh

So seven times in the last 10 years a 3+ loss team would have played for a national title.

the big east (football) doesn't exist anymore so that sample size includes power 6 conferences, not power 5. That makes it 4 times in 10 years, or 5% of the schools in the national playoffs, in which a 3+ loss team playing for a national title.

Which greatly raises the importance of winning your conference. Which makes a whole lot more games during the regular season more interesting for a lot more teams.

There will be 20 teams with an argument for that eight spot. It's stupid. How did we go this long without this piece of [expletive] playoff.

It sucked every year. Where were you?

No there wouldn't. How do you justify that?

I think the regular season this year has been much more interesting because of the playoff. An 8 team playoff wouldn't hurt that whatsoever.

After averaging 1 yard/carry against Maryland, PSU is averaging 1.3 vs IU. I know the roster is thin, but the utter lack of improvement (or regression) of this team through 8+ games is remarkable

Someone tell Joey Harrington to calm the [expletive] down.

Minnesota is going to be 4-1 in the Big Ten with their only loss coming against Illinois.

In Illinois's other 4 Big Ten games they have led for a total of 18:16, never leading after 6:02 into the 2nd quarter.

They led Minnesota for 43:24

I remember when ND turned the ball over 5 times against Syracuse and I was all like "This has never been a problem before, no reason to think this is going to be a recurring issue"

Arizona State lost by five touchdowns to UCLA at Tempe this season.

That's not fair UCLA's QB probably wasn't handing the ball off to them all game

No kidding.
