Walters last draft (10/22) has Thompson in the third. Us he just behind here?

Yes, very much so.

Yep. If you're going to look at mock draft on that site, just use Charlie's. He's still not great or anything, but a LOT better than Walt and better analysis on each picks.

Walter did update his mock today and he went

9: Landon Collins (he has Thompson in the 1st now although it's at 31)

41: Owamagbe Odighizuwa (Perryman went next pick and McKinney at 55)

73: Quandre Diggs

Oh man, he has the Bears drafting Odighizuwa with Shawn Oakman available. Cody Prewitt was also available but he wouldn't make sense with Collins in the first round... Can you imagine the speed added to this defense with Shaq Thompson and Cody Prewitt?

JFC, Randy Gregory is mocking in the Top 5? He backed out on Purdue at the last minute to go to Nebraska...

Wasn't it because of Hope got fired and Hazell came in? I can't remember exactly why Gregory backed out.

Yeah I mean we were hitting rock bottom, can't say I blame the guy. I think the only reason he committed to Purdue was because he broke his leg and everyone else backed off.

Barron was traded to St Louis for a 4th and a 6th. I think I would have done that.

We don't have a 5th though. And Barron would need to be in a better scheme to succeed.

That's exactly what I am hoping for.

No because emery already addressed the defensive line in the offseason with Houston and Allen. If Emery liked Shea Mcclellan as much as he did i cant imagine how much he loves the Clemson OLB.

8 more games from now and we'll be talking #3 pick!

Leonard Williams or Randy Gregory... easiest decision ever for Phil Emery

Leonard Williams is the better player to me. Maybe much better. No need to re-sign Paea if that happens.

Probably more how they [expletive] up again to land in the mid teens range

Yes, this.

The Score hosts are pretty down on the Bears. Openly questioning Emery and Trestman moving forward and as always Hub Arkush thinks both have a lot to prove, especially these next 8 games. Multi-year rebuild likely. Pretty depressing.

In a Wednesday article, 670 The Score host and Tribune special contributor Mike Mulligan shed some new light on some of Arians’ dealings with the Bears. As Mulligan wrote, Arians was “bothered” by several developments when he interviewed with the Bears in early 2013.

From the Tribune:

For one, (Arians) was asked to do a mock news conference in the course of his interview. Apparently it wasn’t enough that he was the reigning coach of the year after taking over the Colts and had been doing news conferences all year.

The mock news conference was a variation on the actual news conferences that the Bears requested of Smith and runner-up Russ Grimm in 2004 after failing to come to terms with Nick Saban. The message is that perception matters as much as performance to the Bears.

Arians was also skeptical of the Bears’ request that Rod Marinelli remain as defensive coordinator, Mulligan wrote. That sentiment echoed an Arizona Republic report earlier in the week that quoted Arians as saying, “It seemed awkward in Chicago because they wanted me to keep some of their (assistant coaches), which wasn’t going to happen.”

That doesn't tell me a whole lot. Sure, the news conference thing is odd since they had press conference tape on Arians, but it's still not the most outrageous request to make. As for the skepticism around Marinelli, I'm not sure why Arians, who would have been the Bears head coach primarily because of his offensive aptitude, would resist against retaining a D-Coordinator of Marinelli's caliber, especially when the majority of the defensive players would be familiar with the scheme and verbiage.

I guess in Arians defense, Todd Bowles has become a hot coaching commodity in just two years.

Every NFL coach will want to bring in his own coordinators. That makes complete sense.

Unlike Trestman though, Arians has ties to some actual good defensive minds.

Trestman also wasn't an in demand NFL coach.

And to clarify: there's nothing in that we don't know already. Cutler turns it over more than is ideal. That is, however, hardly unique to him. You can still be a good QB and turn the ball over more than you want. It's just pointless to seemingly try and pin it as the reason why the Bears are struggling, when it's just a reason out of many as to why the team has imploded. Yeah, when your two main WR have been playing hurt and the OL has regressed/been injured and they essentially have to score on nearly every possession just to even stay in the game, he's going to press and give up critical turnovers. I have no idea why pointing out the obvious should be a "gut punch." Edited by Sammy Sofa

All these articles are the same.

"The defense and special teams are terrible. But Cutler turns the ball over!"

The Bears are 0-5 when they lose the turnover battle. Ok. But the Bears are also 0-4 when their opponent punts less than 2 times. And if the Bears are losing the turnover battle, the teams aren't not punting because the Bears are taking the ball away.

Granted, I still put most of the onus on the offense for not scoring enough early or late or consistently. But even if Cutler had perfect games, that's only 2 more wins. And both of those losses still took game winning drives late in the game by the opposing team to win it (Buffalo OT, and Carolina).
