Week 4: Packers (1-2) @ Bears (2-1), Noon, FOX/780

Posted

The opening line is a pick 'em. Bears should be favored at home, IMO. Packers have looked awful this season.

Will be interesting to see which injured players are able to play after a short week.

I'll go 30-24 Bears

Part of me wants to give Marshall this game off to give him almost a full 2 weeks of rest. Just give them a heavy dose of Jeffery and Forte with some Marty thrown in.

HOW does somebody who presumably took all kinds of journalism/writing classes at Madison do something like this? HOW HOW HOW

Do you know that in three games, the Bears have yet to allow a second half touchdown? In fact, the Bears have only allowed a total of 12 second half points this season. And the Jets’ six points second half points Monday night looked dominate compared the mere three second half points the Bills and 49ers each mustered in the first two weeks.

For shame.

Before you know it, this is gonna fulfill Kyle's common usage standards.

Also, I heard last night that the number was 15 second half points...

EDIT: Confirmed...15 second half points when you count the Bills OT FG.

That's only if you count the Bills OT score.

Sure, but not sure why you wouldn't. Either way, the no 2nd half TD's thing stands, which is the real meat of it.

Fun with early season stats

Cutler on pace for

4000 yards 66% completions 43 TD and 11 INT

So Julius Peppers returns to Soldier Field. Didn't he have a huge game in his first game back in Carolina after joining the Bears?

I thought Peppers had been doing mediocre with the Packers, but I read somewhere that he had 6 pressures against the Lions last weekend.

He was much more effective last week. I watched the whole game, and he was definitely getting pressure.

I can't see it unless he really can't go (which might be the case now). He's already played injured for most of the season.

I think the real question is his effectiveness, which was fine in the 49ers game but wasn't last night.

Why can't you see it? It's only been three games and he's seemingly on the verge of falling apart. There is a lot of time left this year and missing one game now could go a long way to preserving him for a potential playoff run. Marshall was not effective for the entire SF game, he was worthless for a while.

He had 3 TDs in SF, including one of the best he's ever had. He was plenty effective in that game, in spite of having a low yards total.

this again?

Yes, he had some bright shiny moments, but his health very clearly limited him in that game. The fact he scored touchdowns on very short fields does not change the other fact that he is very banged up and it has affected his play. Those three TD should have absolutely no influence on the decision to play or rest him this week. He's banged up and it has gotten worse.

Brandon Marshall 75 catches, 667 yards (4th on team in both), 21 TDs

Matt Forte 725 yards rushing, 773 receiving

Alshon Jeffery the only receiver over 1000 yards, at 1182.

I already said the question is his effectiveness, so why don't you stop with this nonsense? Or are you just in a bad mood (again)?

Because you are somehow acting as if his effectiveness has not been affected and that 3 TD in SF is at all meaningful to the discussion.

we had basically a street FA / rookie 7th round raw project platoon in there at RT, so i wouldn't draw too many sweeping conclusions from it

So the game is to take one sentence out of context and ignore the larger point?

I agree he hasn't been very effective, but I don't see how 3 TDs in SF isn't meaningful.
