Week 3: Bears (1-1) @ Jets (1-1) MNF 7:30 PM ESPN

Not sure why they didn't challenge the obvious fumble near the sideline.

Cutler missed some big throws with open guys, and on one snap you could see the pre-snap read should have led to a very quick dump off to Bennett but they took a quick sack.

Fuller is a playmaker, but he also got turned around a few times leaving decent cushions. Not sure how great his coverage ability will be but he should be an impact DB nonetheless.

Aside from A-Hole chants at a Bears fan getting tossed out early in the game, the thing I heard most last night was, "62 is eligible.". Not that this is new but it's really striking to see how often they go with the extra linemen.

The running game has been non-existent. 3 games in and I'm still waiting to see signs of the benefit of "year 2 in the system" which I was convinced would lead to further improvements.

Kyle Long gets fired up.

MetLife Stadium is as stale as new Yankee Stadium. But I had a good filet mignon sandwich and drank bourbon most of the night so that was sweet.

Lots of Bears fans on the road as usual. Jets fans don't get their vitriol flowing quite like they do for a divisional opponent. Although the night did start with what I assume was an attempted intimidating staredown from some laxbro type that led to nothing more than me cracking open the big can of beer on the train.

of all the people who could've recovered that ball on that play, bostic is a really odd choice to call out

Was it him or Fuller that ended up touching it out of bounds? DJ Williams should have recovered the fumble in bounds but one of those 2 got to it first...not a very heads up play.

Wow Fuller with a +5.0! Both Houston and Allen rated highly as well. Allen did seem to get better as the game went on, and made his presence felt on the final drive.

Chicago Bears – Performances of Note

Lamarr Houston, DE: +1.8

Breakdown: Still waiting for his first sack as a Chicago Bear, Houston notched five pressures (with a sixth nullified by a penalty) last night and added a batted pass in a disruptive display as a pass rusher. Houston played a season-high 17 snaps at defensive tackle last night with two of his pressures coming from an interior alignment.

Signature Stat: Houston recorded his first stop of the season last night, by this point last season he had 11.

Kyle Fuller, CB: +5.0

Breakdown: Fuller backed up his successful fill-in for Charles Tillman last week with a strong first start last night against the Jets, with the only real blot on his copybook the missed tackle that sprung Greg Salas’ 51-yard gain late in the game. Around that, Fuller forced two fumbles and feasted on some of Geno Smith’s worst throws, breaking on late and forced passes to his side of the field collecting a pass defense and an interception.

Signature Play: It would seem that Tillman has been teaching Fuller the “Peanut Punch” with Fuller’s two forced fumbles boosting his grade and his second forced fumble at 11.23 in Q3 was particularly Tillman-esque.

Jared Allen, DE: +3.1

Breakdown: Like Houston, Allen has been quiet on the stat sheet since he arrived in Chicago but hasn’t matched that with strong work that base stats don’t record. He’s still yet to pick up that first sack for the Bears but he was active as both a pass rusher (three hits and three hurries) and run defender (four stops) en route to his highest game grade since Week 9 of last season.

Signature Play: On the first play of the Jets’ final drive (Q4, 3.10) Allen exploited a deep Geno Smith drop to drive around Ferguson’s outside shoulder and hit Smith just after he threw what should have been an interception to Jonathan Bostic.

I'm pretty sure at least one time that Fuller looked like he blew the coverage he was in a zone passing off the coverage to a safety who was out of position. Which can only be expected when you're down to like your fifth guy out there.

Thx for the rundown.

Give it some time. We've only faced 3 of the league's best defenses (at least going in), two of which have been on the road. Not to even mention having our most important offensive players banged up badly.

I will not attack Fuller because he's awesome and the best player ever but that and the running out of the end zone after the int [-X

Can't really blame the refs for blowing that fumble dead. The ref who blew the whistle was behind the play. And there was no reason for Jay to have fumbled that ball. He didn't get hit hard, the defender didn't hit or go after the ball on the sack. Cutler just dropped the ball for no apparent reason, which he has been prone to do over the years. There was really no reason for the refs to believe that he fumbled that live at full speed.

But yeah, even if you give the Jets the TD there, they still would have been down 1 and punting on their final drive if you call the 4th down spot correctly.

He also picked a terrible time for his only missed tackle on that big 51-yard play on the final drive. REally could have cost the team the game.

Why not just let it play out if there's any uncertainty?

Well I didn't see much in the way of replay I just saw him literally spinning in a circle on one play right in front of me and he looked like he was frustrated with himself there.

Oh, and there was a pathetically timed helicopter flyover after the anthem that convinced me the Bears were going to win.

Jets do nothing right. (well, except for making all the middle aged white guys nostalgic for Wayne Chrebet)

I will say this for the running game. 1) It was probably not a huge part of the playbook to begin with, given our struggles with running the ball so far, and the Jets being a very good run stopping defense. But also, 2) once Fiametta left due to injury, they probably abandoned even more of the run game. They still used Forte with those short over the top dump passes to make up for some of what they weren't getting in the rushing game.

both those plays i was wtf'ing hard...but w/e he's a rookie and it's nitpicking given how good he has been at other stuff.

at least they got the flag on the runout that negated the stupidity

That one sweep was kind of ballsy and good.

Rookie excitement. Rookies do dumb things.

Thats my point. I don't think there was uncertainty that's why it was blown dead. I thought live, "oh that's obviously the ground, he had no reason to fumble otherwise".

I don't think the refs even knew he fumbled until they whistled it dead. I could be wrong though.

and for the love of GOD

tell them to never ever ever pass on a touchback on KR again

Yeah, I'm not worried about the run game too much. A) the Bears don't really need it to win games. B) they've faced 2 really good run defenses. If they can't get the run game going to the tune of 4.5 ypc or so the next few weeks, I'll be worried. Packers run D is 30th. Carolina is giving up a 2013 Bears like 6.3 ypc. Atlanta has been ok this year, but don't really have the great history of run defense in Atlanta. They also haven't played many good run teams, at least not any when they've had less than a 35 point first quarter lead.
