Not making excuses but Starlin is probably not all there mentally right now. What he went through takes far more than a few days to get over, let alone keep focused on a diamond.

Wow, Kaplan is such an asshat:

Quit making excuses. Wow! RT @jefe24dq: @thekapman guy just got off the bereavement list. Has had a great season, relax.

That's incredibly insensitive and callous. WTF. I hope this doesn't get unnoticed, overall.

So today was interesting.

I will bet you Kap backtracks within the next 12 hours. Either on Twitter or on his radio show. There's gonna be pressure from above.

What Castro did tonight given what he's been through doesn't bother me. Didn't change the endgame.

He lives for this type of thing. I can't see a backdown.

Look I like Starlin. His terrible habit has to change. But he's played for Lou/Quade/Sveum/Renteria. At some pt it's just on the player no?

len and jd have been coming off more and more meatbally

I wish CSN had never hired him. Until then, I had only heard of him as that guy on that show on WGN that I never listened to.

When was that? 2010?

2008

I don't remember him from then. Just remember Plesac, Gail Fisher, and Otto doing all things Cubs. Was his role more limited?

I used to think Gail Fischer was hot, then outta nowhere - she put on 30 lbs. I was disappointed.

my theory is that brenly was so over-the-top meatball that he and len just played off of each other and were opposites. jd is mostly very smart and just quietly sneaks the meatball in there and it's successfully infecting len's brain.

I actually broke down and tweeted to both Len and baldy.

Len is a smart guy and has seen more Castro ABs than any of us. Could he possibly be right and our narrative be a bit off?

No, he's not right

Piling on a guy (who has shown plenty of improvement, mind you) for focus/concentration a week after losing a cousin and some friends in a car wreck for some inconsequential and reflexive mistake is totally not cool.

Bad News: Wittenmyer is still a massive [expletive].

hahaha, i broke down and tweeted at len too. i felt like a dork doing it but whatever.

i didn't give kaplan the satisfaction.

Do you guys really believe he watched the ball tonight because of the events of last week? I agree that some grace can be extended in terms of piling on, but I don't really give him a pass on the mental mistake.

Kaplan is an ass, but I don't find much fault in what Len said and I think he has the credibility to say it...he's never struck me as a meatball.

Len is not a meatball at all. And it is fine to call out Castro for making a mistake if the coverage is the same for all players making repeated mental errors.

That's the problem.

I mean, the other narrative is completely over the top. I think the narrative here is that the media needs to tone it down and quit equating every mistake as some catastrophic injustice toward the game of baseball. Everyone in this thread was upset about what happened tonight.

Len and JD have called out other mental errors. Len is saying Starlin has them more frequently and if anyone would know, I think it would be Len.

Again, Kaplan's reaction is overboard but he is an idiot so we can disregard what he says. Len is not an idiot so I'm inclined to listen.

Well he backed off hard after realizing what he said.

Did I miss a tweet? Last thing he posted is that Starlin plays hard but the mental gaffes are a problem. That's not backing off hard IMO.

You don't think that's backing off given his earlier Tweets?
