Today is Addison Russell's final AFL game. He is healthy, just shut down after today's game in everyone's best interests.

uhh this seems weird if only because i don't think we had heard even a hint that it might happen.

Maybe because he's performing poorly and they'd rather just shut him down let him rest up try again in March. Maybe he look tired, couldn't say since none of the games have been televised.

They're not shutting him down because he had poor results in 48 at bats.

How are you so certain? If the results are perceived to be fatigue related, this could be the case.

That was what I was getting at, that maybe he was just getting tired, not just because he was performing poorly. I think if he was raking and looked energized and motivated they just let him play it out.

There is a report available to everyone on Addison Russell, there is one on CJ only available to subscribers.

It's nice to see the optimism but his numbers in the afl were weak and I doubt we see him called up until the 2nd half of the season unless he tears the cover off the ball the first couple months of the season in Iowa. Even then they don't really have a pressing need to rush him unless there is an unforeseen injury or trade.

the numbers in the AFL are meaningless. he was just there to get reps. i remember you getting worried when he hit like .100 in his first week with us too. he's awesome. relax.

i agree that he won't be called up til later in the season though. i can't see any way they even solely wait out the service clock time, much less break camp with him.

The Fall League is all about what you see. Sometimes the length of the workload from February to November wears many players down, especially pitchers, but when scouts and executives gather for weeks and an event like Saturday night’s All Star*Game, there is a relaxed joy in simply watching young players and projecting.

They seemed happy to see Lee Mazzilli’s son R.J. hit and look like he’s got a chance at The Show. Or that Justin O’Connor projects to be a frontline thrower as a big league catcher, quieting criticism of the last few years of Rays’ drafts. Or that the Yankees have two potential big bats coming in first baseman Greg Bird and massive outfielder Aaron Judge. And that there are many on scouts row that believe Corey Seager will be playing shortstop for the Dodgers sometime in 2015.

But one of the fun aspects to scouting is the comparables. Here are nine favorites from this fall’s league:

–White Sox infielder Tim Anderson: Reggie Sanders. “He was once a Juco shortstop,” says one executive.

–Aaron Judge: Blake Griffin

–Indians SS Fransisco Lindor: Jimmy Rollins

–Athletics shortstop Daniel Robertson: Jay Bell.

–Cubs shortstop Addison Russell: Barry Larkin. That deserves a wow.

–Cubs pitcher C.J. Edwards: Oil Can Boyd.

–Astros OF Andrew Aplin: David DeJesus. Just all right with me.

–Red Sox outfielder Rusney Castillo: Marquis Grissom

–Reds pitcher Raciel Iglesias: El Duque.

Aaron Judge has gotten that comp for a few years now.

it's just weird to hear a baseball player compared to a guy who probably nobody outside of central oklahoma has ever seen play baseball.

I really could do witout the "comparisons" that are almost entirely due to race. "He was once a Juco shortstop (and he's got dark skin)" so obviously he is the next Reggie Sanders.

agreed

"once was white and posted horse [expletive]"

that could be anyone, why narrow it down
