The First Hundred PAs: The Curious Case of Cubs Rookie Javier Baez, Slugger and Strikeout Machine, by @BenLindbergh http://gran.tl/VSP2ye

Interesting read even though it's mostly stuff that we've discussed about him.

There are some good quotes from Theo here, but a couple things I find hilarious about the things Rogers says in here

http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/cubs/post/_/id/26931/baez-making-history-good-and-bad

For now, the comparisons to other major leaguers won’t sound favorable on the surface. Adam Dunn comes to mind. So does Mark Reynolds. These are/were high strikeout, low batting average, high home run hitters. In fact, former Cub Dave Kingman might be best as a comparison. He was a career .236 hitter and on a per-162 game basis he would average 37 home runs, 101 RBIs, 51 walks and 152 strikeouts. Kingman had four seasons of hitting sub-.240 with 30 or more home runs. That looks a lot like what Baez’s stat line could be over a full year, though both the home runs and strikeouts could be even higher.

A - He basically says Javy right now is like Adam Dunn. Nevermind the fact that Dunn has always been an extremely high walk guy.

B - He neglects to mention the fact that even if he were like those guys, he'd be extremely valuable as at least an average fielding 2B.

Then, he acknowledges Dunn's OBP:

Dunn hasn’t exactly had a bad career. If Baez can reach base as much as Dunn did in his prime, no one will care about the strikeouts.

But not even a paragraph later:

Here’s an idea moving forward. Forget about the strikeout totals and just look at his home runs and on-base percentage. If they are headed in the right direction then so is Baez. Otherwise, the Cubs may have to “settle” for Dunn or Reynolds.

So this makes absolutely no sense. If the home runs and OBP aren't headed in the right direction, then he's Dunn or Reynolds?

Again, nowhere, at any point does he mention position and defensive ability, which are obviously HUGE factors in even comparing him to those guys to begin with.

It's not that I have an issue with the overall tone of what he's trying to say, but it just shows how little he knows about baseball (and probably stuff in general).

Should it go by batting order? If it goes by dreaminess Bryant goes first Schwarber goes last.

That can't be Rizzo's actual face. It takes up too much of his head.

Russell's ears are far more disturbing to me.

javy could seriously just wind up a .240/.300/.490 guy or something and still be really valuable in the latter half of our lineup

THAT'S why i'm not freaking out about how overmatched he looks at time

that and all the dongs
