Mostly only one guy being unreasonable, but complete with some utility infielder predictions, awful makeup proclamations, "he dogs it too much" inferences, and someone randomly saying his career minor league average is .250.

edit: another

this stuff is good. I just read the comment where he said his average in the minors for his career was .250 (actually .278) and OBP was .300 (actually .336).

Also no one mentions that he was one of if not the youngest player in all of those leagues and is now the youngest player in the major leagues.

Well, 2nd-youngest behind Rougned Odor, but he's the youngest in the NL.

Interesting article on Javy's game yesterday.

My favorite snippet:

Now the homer’s almost by itself. We haven’t quite seen another home run like this in the PITCHf/x era. Matt Kemp hit one that was kind of similar; he hit the ball 99 miles per hour. Mike Napoli hit one that was kind of similar; he hit the ball 98 miles per hour. Jesus Montero hit one that was kind of similar; he hit the ball 98 miles per hour. Miguel Cabrera, 91 miles per hour. Paul Goldschmidt, just short of 100 miles per hour. Yoenis Cespedes, 93 miles per hour. Manny Ramirez, 98 miles per hour.

Javier Baez, 105 miles per hour. Breaking ball, down and away, hit out to right-center field on a god-damned line. Javier Baez hit a home run we haven’t seen, at least lately, at least to that level of impressiveness and legitimacy. While others have hit pitches almost like the one Baez hit, they haven’t hit those pitches as hard. Welcome to Javier Baez, who took less than half of one week to confirm that he’s got 80-grade bat speed. Maybe 85, if you go there.

Baez has only confirmed what we’ve known for a while: he can do things to baseballs few others can do. That’s the whole reason he is what he is: he has the same weaknesses as a lot of other prospects, but almost nobody can match his strengths. You can see why people think Baez has high bust potential, because it doesn’t matter how hard you swing if you swing over or under the baseball. We don’t know yet if Baez is going to make enough contact. But we know enough to know we should all hope he does. They don’t make ‘em like Javier Baez. It’d be a real shame if this model went to waste.

Please please please don't bust, Javy

You know, regardless of anything, I'm having fun with the Cubs right now. I look forward to watching the games. I like being involved on this message board. I'm curious and hopeful as to the future. That's all I've asked for and wanted since 2003, and it's been delivered. I'm content. This is fun, and I only see it getting more fun over the next couple years. To me, it's exciting times.

please tell me you aren't implying that this is the most fun you've had or the best you've felt about or the best anything about the cubs since 2003. please please please.

I meant to type 2008. But it definitely has been since then.

I deleted a sentence I wrote referring to 2003 though - and it was in reference to the same train of thought admittedly. Let me put it this way, I haven't felt like we've had a plan and a hopeful future like this since 2003. I haven't had this much fun watching the team since 2008.

Look at his flyout. He hit the ball 365 feet on a line with his right foot off the ground. If he gets fooled just a little less and doesn't have to put all of his weight on one leg, he probably puts that one out (like he did the HR).

Your standards are way too low.

He's pretty amazing in that he hits the ball really, really far (including a couple of dongs) off his front foot. I've seen him do that a couple of times now. He's a freak, at least for awhile. My main concern about Javy is not his bust potential, it's his aging curve.
