Sharpies? On a baseball? Should rethink that.

The Almora promotion is really surprising to me. They must have seen him make some really good adjustments even beyond the improved results at the plate.

SOUNDS LIKE SHARMA'S SUPER SECRET SCOUTING SOURCES WERE ONTO SOMETHING

But seriously, awesome to see this happened and Rizzo HRed again in the time that I napped.

I was so close to predicting Soler got the call in the next day or so after hearing Hoyer allude to a promotion soon. Seems like in the past it has happened really soon when they've said stuff like that.

the soler one was seemingly any day now. almora's promotion isn't as obvious to me

Almora has been hot for about a month but this feels more like a Hendry era promotion (think Colvin or Vitters).

indeed. they must be giving his approach a pass for some good reason. either his progress in other areas is enough forward development to take on greater challenges or the deficiencies weren't going to get worked out in the remaining daytona season so mine as well get him up against better competition

excuse me, that's one word. mineaswell. some people are just so uneducated.

personally i think they should call russell up to iowa and send alcantara down, just for like a week.

Looks like Josh Vitters is gone. Not a surprise at all with him wasting a 40 man spot.

Is he getting DFA'd or are you speculating?

Didn't Almora leave the team early in the year for his dad's health problems? I know it was someone in his immediate family anyway. At any rate, something like that can obviously mess with a kids head.

Just a rumor right now but I wouldn't be surprised at all if we find out tomorrow it's true.

don't recall if he left the team for long but it did come out that his father was fighting cancer and that he's doing better now

If he did leave the team, it was only for a couple days. That's stuck in the back of my mind for a while when considering Almora. The fact that he was playing in front of family/friends in the FSL too.

He did leave for a day or two when his dad had surgery.

@jeffmooreBP: Initial reaction re:Almora: Too soon. Im a fan of mastering a level before a promotion. Only got 1 look at him but saw pitch recog. issues.

@jeffmooreBP: Would definitely liked to have seen more of Almora though. Definite plus bat-to-ball skills. Still learning how to use them. Will be tested.

So does McKinney move to CF now at Daytona?

Probably not the biggest deal, but a very small part of the thinking with Almora could be to have him room with Russell since they know each other and Russell has said it was kind of tough not knowing anyone here. Soler was with rooming with him currently.

How does Almora's age rank in the Southern League? Pretty sure he was one of the youngest by far in the FSL earlier this year.

almora was third youngest in the FSL to start the year (20 years, 0 months). i don't know where he'd rank in the southern league as it stands today, but the only younger player in the SL to start the year was victor sanchez (seattle). the cutoff to make the top 10 youngest in the southern league was 22 years, 2 months - soler was 8th and kris bryant was tied for 10th. (which should make bryant's numbers at that level even more impressive, he's a solid 3-4 years younger than the average player in that league, and had the highest OPS by like 200 points).

Looks like only three 20 year olds have taken even 50 PAs in the Southern League this year. Only one of them is younger than Almora (Jose Peraza, who is about two weeks younger).

Side note: Never heard of Peraza but he looks pretty damn good. Could use some more walks but he's so young that that would seem to be nitpicking.

EDIT - Oh, also, Addison Russell needs one more PA to be on that list. LMAO. And it might not even be updated so he might already qualify.
