With the way Olt has played, I feel like 2008 Mark Reynolds might be his best case scenario comp.

.239/.320/.458/.779 96 OPS+ 28 HR 98 RBI 64 BB 204 K 1.1 fWAR

let's play the same game with rizzo and see what his comp would be if we gave him a magic 90 points of batting average!

stop trying to make olt happen. it's not going to happen.

I know things are looking grim for Olt right now, so let me give you a positive example for us to compare him to.

Brandon Moss hit to the tune of a .668 OPS in his age 25 season with the Pirates. He's a guy that I thought was a wasted roster spot in 2009.

Three straight years of .850 OPS has me thinking a guy like Olt, who has a similar batting profile to Moss, could have things click into place some day. I realize there's quite a difference between .668 and Olt's .600, but I don't see why Olt couldn't improve in the same strides as Moss did.

Brandon Moss can actually see.

In his first 300 PA Moss had an OPS around 750-760 and his K rate was half of what Olt's is currently. Moss's 668 is very different from Olt's 600.

All this "these two", "they" and "them" talk is confusing given the current title.

Maybe he's talking about Olt's eyes.

You guys must have missed the edit.

I was the first responder, I didn't miss the edit. I was just trying to tell a story with a humorous climax.

A reference to goony's bedroom prowess?

I just said I felt like Olt's best case scenario for his career is a slightly below league average player with some power. As his peak. If that's me trying to defend Olt then... okay?

Would anyone be upset if Olt stayed on the Cubs and had a Rob Deer like career? Lots of home runs and strikeouts, crappy batting average, up and down OBP, and average 1 WAR per season? With average to above average defense?

I'd be incredibly upset because it somehow meant that all of the Cubs' highly touted prospects failed and somehow Olt ended up landing a starting job with the team.

Olt really has no long term spot on the team with Bryant and Villanueva (and even Valbuena?) - it'll be curious to see how his career (or lack of one) pans out.

Mark Reynolds and Olt are great comps. Except Olt is a lot better defensively.

Play Olt and Lake the rest of the second half and see if you can build some surplus value from them since they don't fit in the long term plan.

Mike Olt doesn't anywhere near Mark Reynolds' hit tool, and when it gets to the point where that is a real sentence maybe it's time to give up on the guy.
