Blues aren't the first to put together solid seasons and crap out in the playoffs.

No but their fans will tell you they have a knack for it going back way more than the last two years.

I became a hockey fan in the early 1990s, and this is basically how I always remember the Blues. A regular-season juggernaut who becomes a nice foil in the playoffs for the Red Wings or the Avs or now the Blackhawks.

I seem to remember a period of time where the Hawks were also like that. It seems like something that might be slightly more common in hockey for whatever reason.

[expletive], the [expletive] blues and [expletive] curtis joseph swept us in the first round when we won the [expletive] president's trophy

it's because hockey is so random and there are so many rounds of playoffs

It's not *that* random. It's not MLB. There's a reason you routinely see the same teams win over and over again.

It's not quite the NBA, but the best teams tend to win most of the time in the playoffs.

I'm now being told that Bickell always goes out of his way for knee to knee contact, and that he deserves to be suspended for the rest if the playoffs. This guy has no clue.

@ChrisKuc: #Blackhawks winger Patrick Sharp said referee told him he would have been awarded a penalty shot had he not scored on breakaway vs. Blues.

He no doubt deserved a suspension for that (probably 1 game) but rest of the playoffs? LOL

So, MN or CO next. Would prefer MN.

Yeah. The frustrating thing is that the Wild almost took the 3-2 lead last night. They were up with 2 minutes to play when Colorado pulled their goalie. The wild brought the puck into the offensive zone and an Av's player committed a blatant hold (not wanting to give up the empty netter). Refs didn't call anything and they got the puck, came in to their zone offsides (again not called) and scored a goal about 5 seconds later. Won in OT.

Yeah I don't really care either. I feel like the blackhawks are better than either when playing well, and I sort of think they woke up a bit this series.

so, if the Blackhawks can somehow win the cup again this year, does that put them in the same league as the Wings/Oilers/Islanders/Canadiens dynasties?

Well, 3/5 < 4/5, but it puts them in the conversations.

It'll also be as many in any five-year stretch as the Bulls ever won.

Man being a Blackhawks fan is great. You only get a couple of these in a lifetime as a sports fan so enjoy.

Hope we win the Cup at the UC this year

Given that it's harder now to build and maintain a dynasty, I absolutely think they would belong in that conversation.

Yep. A dynasty in the most vicious salary cap era the world has ever seen.

Sulley's right - winning several cups against a truly hard cap in an era where salaries are rising (albeit slower than in other sports) would be quite a feat.

It should be noted that it's not like the Isles and Oilers went and bought up all the best players because there was no salary cap.

But there were no constraints on them keeping the team together, and that's where Bowman deserves a ton of credit.

Any idea when Game 1 of round 2 will be? I'm guessing somewhere between Friday and Sunday? If Colorado wins tonight could it be as early as Thursday?

I believe the NHL wants to try and start series on Fri and Sat with some game 2 action on Sunday. It could depend on potential scheduling conflicts at certain arenas.

Which of course depends on who wins that series and who gets home ice. I said it before when I thought we would fave COL in the first round. I don't mind starting there. Put the pressure right on them.
