He was hired to develop the players. Winning games is just icing on the cake.

No, not buying that. If that were the case then they could have just kept Sveum.

What?

They fired Sveum because they felt he was [expletive] at developing players. And almost everything they said about Renteria had to do with how they thought he'd do developing young players.

That's not to say anything of Heisenberg's post overall.

OK, fair enough. I guess what I was getting at was that IMO Sveum was the guy they hired knowing he would never be the manager of their first playoff win. He was hired with a purpose of development and "holding players accountable". In the end he was just bad at those things it turns out.

EDIT: I think/hope they see Renteria as the guy for the next several years.

The bunting is annoying, but he'll be doing it less when Baez, Bryant, and other good hitters join the lineup in the future.

It will be interesting to see if they keep Renteria once they get to a point of serious contending.

I submit that that's not actually interesting at all.

If they actually end up with a good team I don't care who they have running it so long as it's not some kind of Bakerian monster.

It will be interesting based on timing. If they are good next year, he will be there. If they suck next year, he will be gone.

Pretty much; it's obvious the for the forseeable future the coaches and manager are going to be the only higher ups with any kind of accountability.

Just bunted with Welly Castillo in front of Ryan Kalish and Darwin Barney. You could probably guess it didn't work. Is Theo/Hoyer going to talk to Renteria about this or are they just going to continue to let this happen?

Renteria said after game that Castillo bunted on his own; was told to swing away.

I don't have a huge problem with him yet. It isn't as if he was given a major league roster to manage.

He's got less to work with than Sveum had in his first year. Let's see the development of the young guys, and if the trend isn't good - bring in the next guy

Bunting thing still bugs me though.

That's two managers in a row who seem to be big believers.

Rick renteria's in game moves are indicative of renteria's best efforts to win games. When he calls for a bunt, it’s because he thinks a bunt will make winning the game more likely.

I'm skeptical.

I respect that. Im just positing that the moves that Rick made in that cardinals game last Friday where made on purpose and with the goal of improving the cubs chances to win the game. And because of that, and in my opinion there really isn’t any ambiguity left, he cannot be anything but a bad manager.

He actually was quoted after Friday's game saying that one of the bunts (cant remember which one) was made to lower our chance of winning. I think it was some long con he was pulling.

What?

Didn't Sveum go so far as to have a bunting competition?

I'm pretty sure he was also somewhere in the neighborhood of dead last in the league in bunt attempts during his tenure.
