Baez is so so fun to watch. The SS is in pain after catching that liner.

he kept shaking it like the Rookie of the Year catcher...and it was his throwing hand!

but yeah, every action he takes on the field is designed to draw your attention

recap

ugly K

loud opposite field HR

Buckner [expletive]-up of a likely DP

pull double

steal of 3B with 2 out

lineout to SS, hurting the fielder's hand

unreal

Remember last year when he hit a ball so hard Dee Gordon dove out of the way of it?

I briefly explained to my wife how good he could wind up being while watching his HR last night, and she was genuinely impressed. I immediately regretted my decision.

Nope, this is our guy. We have found the cocky, great player that every team other than us is going to hate for years. Wishing he was theirs. It's about to be glorious.

Yeah, I have started to go on and on about to Baez to some of my Cubs fan friends who don't keep up with this sort of thing. I have to hold myself back a little because, you know, it's the Cubs.

Last week, I was watching the game at a bar with my friend. Right as Javy was coming up to bat, I was telling him about what ridiculous power and bat speed he has and how rare that is for a middle infielder and all that. Not five seconds later, he hits one off the scoreboard. WELP.

That the one off Wolf? I had said basically the same thing to my extremely unimpressed fiancee, and when Baez made contact, I did an embarrassing "OH OH OHHHHH" thing and she sarcastically whined "i guess that baez guy did something good?"

They probably do but for some reason MLB.com keeps cutting off the highlights super short in spring training. Usually during the season they'll hit the home run, wait for them to round the bases, catch the replay, and end the video. In spring training they've barely waited for them to touch home plate, if at all, before cutting the video off
