Let me reiterate how impressed I will be with this management if they have the nerve to send Junior Lake down before the season starts.

Is there something you've seen that indicates that might be happening? I haven't really noticed any allusions to Lake going to Iowa, but I haven't been reading every article either.

Absolutely nothing that makes me think it's a possibility.

Seeing as he is blocking no one right now, I'd rather he be given an opportunity to hopefully get hot with the Cubs for a couple of months then we sell high on him.

Weren't you previously of the (sensible) opinion that ST performance is meaningless?

I was saying this before ST started. But extreme K-rates are the only ST stat that shows some correlation to real stats.

I get that Lake has sucked in spring training. But the FO has said on multiple occasions that spring isn't going to dictate all that much. The majority of us know his stat line was full of holes last year, but he did put up decent counting numbers. I've got no issue with him starting in the majors, because who is going to take his spot? (And no, it's not [expletive] Vitters)

Lake has a shot at having trade value or becoming a 4th OFer for us long term. If we had someone being blocked, it's one thing. But we don't.the closest person is Brett and he's not exactly earned a real shot either.

I'll give you Kalish. The rest? Not a chance. They're pure fodder with no upside. At least Lake has tools and has also put up a better ML stat line than any of them, with the possible exception of Coghlans ROY season, which I'm too lazy to look up.

Nate, Sweeney, Ruggiano, and who are the other 2?

Kalish, McDonald, Coghlan, maybe Vitters or Wells.

wait until Baez or Bryant has a bad month, Kyle's instant doom boner will prove once and for all that his life has been worthwhile.

Alcantara HR

Irrationally excited about him. Also was excited to finally hear how to pronounce his last name correctly.

AL-Contra (like the game)

not AL-can-tar-uh

I"m excited about him too, I got to watch parts of a half a dozen games last year and I was really impressed. Only parts because I was entertaining a 4 and 2 year old at the same time.

Also, I love that Kyle has expressed on multiple occasion the need to be impressed by Theo and Jed.

Totally with Kyle here.

Oh well. Only a matter of time before he plays himself off the roster anyway. Would rather not have to go through that, though.

I don't understand "being impressed" by a front office not bringing a bad player north.

for the record, i wasn't with kyle on that part...just on really hoping he doesn't break camp (which he will)

only 1 remaining regular played at a better WAR pace than (the 23 year-old) Lake did last year, but sure if you're desperate to see more of Ryan Kalish for whatever weird reason i guess it makes perfect sense
