Michael Roth:

@mtRoth29: @aaronfitt that's a weak ass move for any organization. If I were a junior this year Id tell the phillies not to draft me after that.

One agent: "As of today, Phillies are out. Phillies are not getting into any more of our households. We're shutting down all communications"

Good for him. I hope more agents take this stand against an absolutely vile act. It's not enough that 18-21 year old kids have to negotiate against a multibillion dollar partner, but now they have to face blackmail if they try and even the odds.

Good. Hope more follow.

This was regarding the Fitt tweet posted above:

@CrawfordChrisV: LRT: Had one agent who advises three well-known guys call the situation "scary."

This isn't meant as an over-reaction to one game, but I do wonder if Brandon Waddell will hold on as UVA's Friday starter all year. Talent-wise, Kirby and Sborz are clearly better in terms of "stuff". Looks like Connor Jones will be in Branden Kline's freshman year role as a fireman of sorts. My guess is that, with three sophomores in the rotation, that Connor will follow Branden's path and be the closer next year, with a shot at anchoring the rotation as a junior.

Apparently you aren't being reactionary. Kirby is moving to Friday, Sborz to Saturday and Waddell drops to Sunday.

Jesus, what a massive [expletive]-up. Whoever works with the Phillies making these descisons is either insane or has some kind of personal vendetta against these kids.

Heh heh, he better. He's not supposed to be an "agent". It's supposed to read, "one 'ADVISOR'", not "one agent"!

Ruben Amaro is terrible at his job.

Wetzler suspended 20% of Oregon State's games.

@aaronfitt BREAKING: Oregon State's Ben Wetzler will be suspended for 20 percent of the season, which includes time he's already missed.

@aaronfitt Oregon State statement says Wetzler's 20 percent suspension "is too hard given all of the mitigating factors." He'll return Sunday, March 3.

‏@aaronfitt OSU: "Having seen these amateurism rules in action, OSU believes NCAA should take a serious look...toward revising rules on amateur status"

@aaronfitt I completely agree with Oregon State that this penalty—or any penalty—is too harsh for Wetzler, but at least it's not a longer suspension.

Some fireworks late in the South Carolina-Clemson game this afternoon. Clemson coach Jack Leggett comes out to argue a call on a play at the plate while play is still live. He touches his catcher to tell him to throw it to 3rd because the runners are advancing while they're arguing with the ump. Runner is out at 3rd but the Clemson player talks trash and benches clear. Clemson loses 10-2 and their coach is the whiniest bitch who's ever bitched.

Here's are the multiple Vines of the play:

Junior pitcher from LSU, Aaron Nola.

Dude has now pitched 53 innings without giving up an earned run. This year he is 4-0, 0.00 ERA, 27 innings, 36 K's and 2 walks. Goodness.

UVA's season has been ... iinteresting. The elite offense hasn't been there, as guys have struggled (particularly Downes, but McCarthy did as well). Fisher is out. That said, the pitching, which was in a rebuilding mode, has picked up the slack, as Kirby has been dominant. Sborz is clearly a pen arm functioning as a Saturday starter for now (I now expect Sborz to move back to the pen next year, with Connor Jones taking a rotation spot, as Jones is arguably the best, or 2nd best, arm for UVA). The meat of UVA's schedule is in April, though. Fisher comes back, I want to say mid-April. A good April, and they'll probably be in contention for the top overall seed.

The benefit of all these injuries/struggles is that younger positional guys are getting PT and AB's, which will help for next year, after this junior crop of positional guys leave, but while UVA still has an elite pitching staff.

BA's midseason projected field: http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/2014-midseason-projected-field-of-64/

The top 8 seeds, in order, are: Virginia, South Carolina, Florida State, Texas, Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo, Louisiana-Lafayete, Oregon State and Vanderbilt.

Other teams people care about: Ole Miss is a 2 in Miami's regional, UCLA is a 3 in Cal Poly's regional, Kansas is a 2 in South Carolina, Oklahoma is a 2 in Oregon State and Indiana hosts it's regional again (matched up in the Supers with Vandy).

You thought the Rodon tweet about his 134 pitch outing was bad?

@Texas_Baseball: Consider this: Nathan Thornhill tossed a complete game on just 93 pitches - despite a TWO-hour rain delay in the middle of the game.

Well, Chris Ellis isn't half bad. Currently outdueling Nola.

I've seen Ellis listed as a late first or early second round guy on some mocks.

I really hope that, come tourny time, UVA slides Waddell in as the 2nd pitcher instead of Sborz. Sborz's command in a pivotal 2nd game would really have me worried. Heck, been saying it for awhile, but I sorta wish Connor Jones was a starter with Sborz in the pen. I think Sborz has draft potential ... but as a pen arm (doubt the Jones/Sborz swap happens this year ... maybe next year). Hell, I wouldn't even really mind flipping Nick Howard's strike throwing ability with Sborz.

The return of Fisher should bode well for this UVA squad, but what this team really needs is for Brandon Downes to snap out of his funk. I know he's been banged up, but it's getting to be crunch time.

As a side note, this year seems rather wide open. It isn't hard to imagine FSU beating UVA 2 out of 3 if they had Leibrandt.

Man, UCLA is going to go from winning the College World Series (and making Omaha 3 of the last 4 seasons) to not even making the tournament. Sucks, but oh well, last year was so much damn fun.
