The Ricketts family forum: Where people ask about Amtrak schedules and how early they can get drunk at the Arizona facility.

Do we know yet when they will start selling booze?

Has anyone asked any questions about growing mustaches?

Wesley Wright was just asked if he would consider getting the whole team to grow beards and not cut them until they win a World Series.

Is there a panel or anything about the renovations this year?

I think the Cubs Business Operations panel is right now, although the Ricketts session probably covered a lot of ground in terms of what they're willing to say.

Ah. I just want to see some more pictures of that Wrigley model at least.

Somebody texted me "no new Wrigley for 9 years" based on some tweet of Buster Olney regarding buying out the rooftops. I assume this is a gross misinterpretation.

That or just tongue in cheek cynicism.

Ricketts says differing agendas of rooftop owners make it impossible to buy out last 9 years of contract w them

Crane starts off with "Let me tell you a little about myself" and soon after calls the Cubs a 100 year old startup.

Since Wrigley reno lost a year, question is: still 5 years? Ricketts say Cubs may have found a way to shorten it to 4 years now. #CubsCon

Fan asks Theo really longwinded question about when the Cubs will when the World Series....

Theo:"Maybe by the end of your question."

I love that man.

Ricketts: we still have some Wrigley details to iron out, and we're optimistic. #CubsCon

Ricketts say he likes the charm of the rooftop experience, but Cubs need to know they can do what they want when rooftop contract is up.

Brett Taylor ‏@BleacherNation 2h

Sounds like having certainty that Cubs can do what they want with park when rooftop contract is up is the real rooftop holdup.

Brett Taylor ‏@BleacherNation 1h

Ricketts really get pushed on rooftop question but no solid new info. Still in talks, hope to get past this soon so reno can start. #CubsCon

Ricketts says we don't yet know what's going to happen on TV deal. Simply not going to say much on it today. #CubsCon

The way Ricky Renteria talks about player development is sooo different from Dale Sveum. Lots of warm fuzzies. #CubsCon

@EricLPauly Everyone is calling him Ricky here.

Best question of the day so far: how does front office feel about opt-out clauses in long-term deals.

Brett Taylor ‏@BleacherNation 1h

Answer: it's new, still evaluating on case by case. Don't love 'em for obvious reasons, but sometimes you have to stretch to get a guy.

Brett Taylor ‏@BleacherNation 1h

Epstein: Front office has held back funds this offseason in case there is opportunity to get a young talent. Eh hem. #CubsCon

Brett Taylor ‏@BleacherNation 58m

For those asking, Epstein implied that if Cubs don't get that eh hem young talent with the held back funds, those funds could be rolled over

Brett Taylor ‏@BleacherNation 37m

Theo: the Ricketts know that they'll own this team for generations, so they are willing to take the media hit now to do it the right way.

Joe Bohringer mentions NL disadvantage in signing free agent sluggers, bc AL teams can add extra yr or 2 w/security blanket of DH. #CubsCon

Not to sound like an idiot or a dick but...

Did he imply they have 29 hired scouts solely for each team? Did he imply they cover each team at each level?

I haven't looked at their BA Directory but I'm assuming they have pro scouts who cover the minors full-time, amatuer area scouts who cover the minor leagues within their territory and then further up with crosscheckers, etc as most teams (including mine) employ.

Depending on which one it is, I would not be too impressed.

It was implied they have a different scout assigned to each team and that person covers the entire system, top to bottom. Was not clear if this was that scouts ONLY job or not.

Yeah, that's a Wilken thing. When each guy is assigned like 3 or 4 teams from Rookie on up (not sure if it extends to the majors). It's more valuable with trades considering the same guy has graded the entire system rather than 3-4 different guys, although I'm sure they still have territorial coverage for added eyes.

Crane bitching about amount of taxes and obstacles Cubs have that others don't.....

Says it's LIKELY we'll get a radio rights announcement prior to the season, involving WGN. Talks about holding ticket prices 4 years straight. Still 3rd highest in league, by the way.

Cool, by the way, it sounded like this was separate from major league scouting.
