Lol @ 12-4 traveling to an 8-7-1. Playoff seeding by record can't come soon enough.

Going to straight up best 6 records in each conference and not giving auto bids to division winners would be better, imo.

I'd never want to see a scenario where winning your division does not guarantee a playoff berth. It would be a lot easier to just seed the playoff eligible teams by overall record or just make a rule that the best record in each matchup gets the home field regardless of seeding (isn't that how the NBA currently does it?).

I like it the way it is. I like rewarding division winners.

Yeah, if you want to seed by record, eliminate divisions and just go with 2 conferences. Otherwise, what's the point of divisions and division champions?

I think it gives some structure to scheduling and still guarantees a playoff spot for winning your division. You want home field? Win more games. I'd have no problem with them taking steps to avoid having the Saints have to play in Seattle or Philly or the 49ers have to play in GB or Chicago when they earned home field with a better record.

File this argument in the don't care vault. It doesn't need fixing.

Conversation heard an hour ago between a couple of guys in Packers clothing:

"I got offered so many tickets to the game today"

"me too"

Wimps.

I know this is completely illogical but glad the Eagles lost. Serves them right for turning into a buzzsaw for 4 quarters in a meaningless game against the Bears. Blah blah seeding. Glad they got the better seed so they could give the Saints their first playoff road win in their history.

Nothing illogical in rooting against Chip Kelly and Riley Cooper.

I'm not necessarily opposed to it as I think it's a legit argument, I just think it's silly to have divisions and division "champions" in that scenario. I lean toward leaving it as is, because in your scenario you're still not fixing other, related issues like Green Bay making the playoffs and Arizona not. To me, you either go all-in on divisions or you eliminate them entirely and just take the top X number of teams from each conference.

There is no perfectly fair system, and especially no perfectly fair system that also makes for exciting finishes to seasons and encourages rivalries.

Constantly calling for changes each year to address whatever little peculiarity that pops up is a bit odd to me.

It's just more media-driven copy - anything that can become a story, does.

the packers are going to win the super bowl in a perpetual ironic punishment for me, aren't they?
