And I think you are wrong. Garza isn't a good player anymore. This is Kruetz redux.

What does that even mean? Kreutz was a highly paid player who dominated the locker room. It sucked that the Bears "best" lineman was a freaking center, even when he was good. Garza is a fairly compensated mediocre lineman who is not guaranteed the starting job for game 1, let alone the entire season.

My point in bringing up Kruetz was that he was getting by largely on rep during his last couple of years. I suspect the same thing is happening with Garza.

In any case, most of the mock drafts I am keeping an eye on have the Bears going with Dennard, Gilbert or Dix. I think this may be because Donald's stock is rising and the kid from Minnesota is now viewed as a high second-rounder.

Garza graded out at +7.2 and DLP graded out at +6.1.

About a month till the draft. Looks like there are 5 sure things in the top 10 (or 13); Clowney, Matthews, Robinson, Watkins, Mack are sure things. Barr and at least one quarterback seem to be in it. That leaves 6 before the Bears pick.

So it seems that how offensive the remaining picks will be depends on how many quarterbacks are drafted; and whether Taylor, Evans and Ebron are rated highly (as the draft pundits say) should define the Bears draft.

I don’t see the bears drafting a safety that early. I’m hoping that Gilbert/Dennard or Mosely are there at 14. I’m not in love with Donald /Jerrigan that early. I worry Emery falls in love with someone like Haggeman after the last few drafts.

Best case is a trade down unless it’s the top CB.

Who are we drafting?

FYI, Kyle Fuller is coming to Chicago for a visit. In Emery's 2 drafts, all of Long, Bostic, Greene, Mills, McClellin, Jeffery, Hardin have come to Chicago for pre-draft visits. So, odds are...if a guy comes to visit, the Bears are strongly looking to draft him.

I think I like Fuller slightly more than Dennard at this point. Fuller's a better run defender and is very sound in his technique. Dennard has great technique but he's also a grabber and could be prone to penalties in the NFL with his style of play.

Fuller has a weird profile over at NFL.com. Here is their conclusion:

Narrow-framed, confident, competitive off-man/zone corner who should contribute readily on special teams while pushing for a role in sub packages.

Yet they also view him as a second to third round pick with great zone cover skills. You are still picking potential starters in the 2nd Rnd, no? Sure he's a scheme guy (he might not fit in with a press coverage team), but for a team that loves Cover 2 as much as the Bears he seems like a guy who could start off the bat.

I like Fuller more than Dennard too, though in a perfect world, you trade down to the 20s for him.

Agreed. Potential trade downs are:

to 18th Jets (Dennard, Ebron, Beckham)

to 19th Miami (Taylor Lewan)

to 22nd Eagles (WR or CB, though they like Fuller and WRs who should be there at 22)

to 26th Cleveland (falling QB)

to 28th Carolina (obviously WR)

to 30th SF (because they have too many picks for open spots on their roster and could use a WR or CB).

I'd prefer to not go further than 22nd, and if they could get a 3rd to only move to 18 or 19 (every 1st round trade in the last 5 years, the team moving down more than 4 picks has gotten at least a 3rd), then I'd be ecstatic. Could still have their pick of Fuller, Pryor, or possibly even Donald at 19 because I don't see any of the teams between the Bears and 19 picking him.

The only slight reach that Emery should consider for would be Pryor at Safety. Other then that, 14 is too early for Fuller and Jernigan.

Donald, Gilbert, Dix, Pryor. That should realistically be the group to choose from.

There are rumors of Donald to NYG. There are rumors that the Rams won't let HCD get past 13. And Gilbert will almost certainly be gone by 14 (possible from 8 on).

That's got to be the worst case draft scenario for the Bears. 1 of Donald/HCD/Gilbert would be ideal. Emery also isn't predictable and could easily take a Haegeman or Fuller who are both late 1st/early 2nd prospects.

Honestly, that's what I'm expecting at this point. Kyle Long was kind of off the radar last year. Seen as a 2nd/3rd round pick by most publications. The year before was obviously McClellin and the lack of scheme fit. I'm fully expecting Emery to NOT pick who any of the popular picks are.

#Bears preseason schedule: Home Eagles (Aug. 7-10) & Jaguars (Aug. 14); Away Seahawks (Aug. 21-24) & Browns (Aug. 28 or 29).

Is there a reason they play the Browns every single year in the preseason?

I feel like I've read something about it before, but can't remember.

This will mark 11th consecutive preseason #Bears and #Browns have faced each other in finale

No idea.

Why do the Bears always play the Cleveland Browns the fourth week of the NFL preseason?

John T.

Rockford, Illinois

The NFL schedules the first three weeks of the preseason, but all individual teams are responsible for creating their match-ups for the finale. The Bears and Browns agreed to a series, alternating between the two cities on a yearly basis. It's a good partnership because it's a short trip and the non-conference foes only play each other in the regular season once every four years. This season the Bears will host the Browns in the preseason finale and visit Cleveland during the regular season.

Whoa. Are you lost friend? Didn't know you posted outside the politics thread.

I’m just here to make sure you aren’t arguing that the Bears should give draft picks to the Texans because they made 4 times less wins than the Bears, or that the players should give up their cadillac insurance plans for an ACA policy, or demonize all of the Bears players for being part of the evil 1 percent, or argue the Bears should have more female and midget players to match makeup of the country…………………………… :D

Seriously, almost 4,000 posts and a small percentage are in the politics thread (though I will admit a much higher percent recently). Nor do I have the time to post 50k. Did I just say "nor"?

I think the QB position will set the Bears position with the 14th pick. Half a dozen teams are linked to QBs. I'm hoping Houston goes QB and the other teams react. 3 or 4 QBs drafted high helps the Bears.

Weird mock over at NFLDraftTek has the Bears taking CJ Mosely over Dennard, Donald, etc. and all of the DT's sans Nix falling to the early 2nd. I'm wary of Donald as a combine-hyped prospect, but I still can't see that happening.

Donald isn't your typical combine-hyped prospect though. Dude's numbers were ridiculous. 28.5 TFL and 11 sacks from the DT position. 63 TFL and 27.5 sacks in the last 3 years. He's the real deal. The only concern is if the lack of size hampers him at the next level.
