.@ProFootballTalk reports $28.5 mil over 4 years for Michael Bennett in SEA. Sources (not at Halas Hall) told me #Bears had more on table.

He must really hate Martellus.

I wanted him, because 1) he's good and 2) because Martellus is [expletive] awesome, but the dog thing honestly bothered me about Michael, even without knowing the entire story. But I 'm a dog lover.

I am most bummed that Seattle wasn't forced to stretch their cap.

Had to Google what you're talking about. At least that dog lived and is fine now, but that sucks.

He pretty much let it be known it was his preferred destination. I doubt Emery went into this as his only card. I'm fine adding Johnson or keeping Peppers and spending a 1st on the position.

Eh, at least he abandoned the dog at a place perfectly suitable to take care of the dog.

This pales in comparison to some things players have done.

Dante Rosario just got cut already.

Someone explain why the Bears would sign someone in the offseason and then a week later cut them....did they need his money for something? Did they find a TE they liked more on the FA market?

Could be they voided his deal for some reason.

Bears calling around the league, seeing if they can find a trade partner for DE Julius Peppers, per sources. Trade unlikely...

I guess you have to cover your bases but I can't imagine a team trading him. Maybe they are doing it to gauge interest in Peppers should they release him, gathering data used to determine what sort of paycut is justifiable.

Like you said, I think it's normal procedure to do that just in case. Panthers are doing the same with Steve Smith but everyone knows Smith is going to get cut.

Bears are releasing RB Michael Bush, per source. One more RB on market.

#Bears are terminating contract of RB Michael Bush

Hello Darren Sproles?

@AdamHoge: Release of Michael Bush saves $1.85 million in cap space. #Bears still on the hook for $2 million in dead money in 2014.

Now don't waste money on a free agent backup RB when you can draft just as good ones late.

I'd normally agree, but I'd love Sproles if he can be had reasonably.

I'm not sure he can be had reasonably. In fact I really doubt it. Even at a reasonable deal we'd be putting a lot of money into the RB position. I'd really only be okay with it if we just strike out on the defensive players we target and have to spend the money somewhere.

He's a very talented player but he's at a bad age for RBs and he'll be too expensive for a team that has too many real holes with little available funds to fill those holes. To top it off, his profile is similar to Forte (great receiver, poor short yardage runner) which would create unnecessary redundancies at the position.

I love watching him, you guys are right though, he doesn't make a lot of sense. Oh well.

Didn't see this brought up, but Michael Wright mentioned he thinks the Bears really want Peanut back.

I don't know. How much are we talking about for a 30 year old not every down RB? Trestmans offense is made for a RB like Sproles. It might be worth it.

I know there are glaring glaring needs on defense but if it's at all possible he'd be the perfect addition to the offense IMO

Sproles has tons left in the tank. You guys already have Forte though. I never thought he was that great as a returner either.
