Jay didn't want to test the open market. Said if he'd hit the open market it would've been on the Bears not wanting him back.

Jordan Mills' injury was a 5th-metatarsal injury

What does this mean? Is it a bad injury?

Emery was really vague. That was the only real info. I don't know anything more about it.

I had to google that one myself. Doesn't sound like a long healing process, but don't quote me on that. What I read wasn't based on a 300+ lineman that needs good feet to do his job.

For those of you who think this was a bad deal, please explain in detail how you would have handled it. If you think he should have been franchised, keep mind that managing Jay's cap number is essential to improving the defense , which is this offseason's unquestioned number one priority. If you think he should have been allowed to walk, who do you replace him with? What's the long term plan?

I've been the only one not completely rejoicing and I've said how I would have handled it. I've also said that I'm very happy with the deal.

Also, the #1 priority of the offseason wasn't to improve the defense. It was to get the QB situation under order. Granted, now that shouldn't be an issue for at least 3 offseasons to come.

So you'd franchise him, thus giving him an unavoidably gigantic cap number and leaving the QB position in continued flux? By not doing that they are more free to improve the rest of the team and draft a decent QB next season.

A metatarsal is just a bone in your foot, there are a few of them (and are numbered if I'm not mistaken) and I think it just means he injured his 5th one. Not some degree of injury or anything. It's been a while since I took an anatomy class though.

Recovery time seems to be hitting in the 3 month time frame based on what I'm capturing online.

Jay said he wasn't as worried about making as much as "X" player....that he's more concerned about winning a championship than making the most possible dollars in his career.

So, it sounds like they'd like for McCown, Garza, Wootton, DJ, and maybe one of Ratliff or Melton back? With a good chance of Peppers being cut based on no real talk of him?

Hard to say till they settle on a scheme.

Whoa. Is that Rick Morrisey calling out Jay for having diabetes?

Or was it Telander?

Now Telander goes from asking Emery about Jay's diabetes to asking Jay about how marriage and fatherhood affected his leadership on the field.

His column is bound to be a doozy.

Not going to be a significant difference between the franchise number and his cap number. If rumors are correct. ....he's averaging 18mil throughout the deal. Franchise number is 16mil. Even if u backload the deal, its not going to be low enough this year to make a difference between fixing the defense and not.

Jay, Martellus, Wilson, Alshon, and Forte heading to Florida to work out with Brandon. Love it. I hope Brandon gets an extension here soon.

Even if its "only" 1.5 mill that's significant given how many wholes they need to fill.

I'm sure it'll happen soon. More of a restructure to lower his number this year and give him probably 2-3 extra years.

I'm excited about Wilson with those guys. Dynamic ability.

I think the NFL has made it's product worse by having fewer mandatory offseason workouts/activites. I think things like this could be extremely helpful.

You definitely need as much money as possible if you want to fill a lot of wholes.

Definitely liking that Wilson is part of that group.

With as potent as the offensive systems have been, I can't agree with your theory on this.
