Week 15: Bears (7-6) @ Browns (4-9) Noon, FOX

I would say Romo gets more unfair criticism. The national media has recently been picking up on the December statistics and trying to absolve Romo. The theme is still that Romo is a choker though. I saw several meme's on Facebook on Romo choking late in the season.

We've said national media gives him more crap than the local media and Dallas fans. Not that I'm in Dallas, but I'm not in Chicago either and it's pretty obvious to me that Cutler gets it worse than Romo.

A few people watching the games with me yesterday referenced how horrible Dallas is in December, which I never paid much attention to other than recognizing that the Bears beat them last week. Within an hour after that comment was made, they blew up and lost to Green Bay, so it must be true.

I can't imagine how someone can say this with a straight face. They are both unfairly criticized, but to say cutler gets it worse than Romo is hysterical.

But Cutler gets it for no [expletive] reason. Romo has blown what, 3 games this year with late INTs? Cutler has never done that. Cutler gets [expletive] for getting hurt, his body language, and for throwing to Brandon Marshall too much.

I've never heard one of my Cowboys fan friends say, "they need to get rid of Romo". I've never heard a Cowboys fan clamoring for someone else to be the starting QB in the Romo era.

***FYI, I'm talking about by their own fans. Romo vs. Cutler. ***

Feels to me that most NFL fans would say Cutler takes more heat. People really hate him, while Romo isn't treated like that at all.

Romo's had better than a 90 QB rating in every one of his eight seasons in Dallas; Cutler's never once reached that mark in his eight seasons of play

it's possible that might play into it?

Stats still argue in Cutler's favor, not against him. Average QB rating is around 80 I believe. So other than 2009, he's been an above-average QB who doesn't deserve what is thrown at him. He'd have easily cracked 4,000 yards this year if not for the injuries.

Raw is right, it's the character/persona more than anything. People are just [expletive] sometimes.

Cowboys fans have a seething hatred for romo.

Romo was shredded for wearing a hat backwards.

It must be different out there but here every Cowboy fan I know or interact with on message boards always defends Romo and blames others for the Cowboys' woes (and admittedly, there are a lot of other people who deserve more blame than Romo).

because message board fans are usually smarter than random general public fans and romo deserves to be defended (and jerry jones and lots of the people he employs deserve ridicule)

Yeah, no way that's true.

You're insane.

Even the worst message board posters on the worst Cubs message board are more informed than random idiot on the street that may start a baseball conversation with me.

Even neely is light years ahead of the guy who told me this stuff:

I was at a bar last night and overheard two people saying all kinds of stupid things about the Cubs.

Among them - "Can you believe how much money they gave this guy (re: Rizzo)?" "Unbelievable. They're just paying for the power. Gotta lock up those 12 home runs. (heavy sarcasm)"

Then I overheard something about how Castro is terrible and needs to be shipped off (granted, he's not making it easy to have a counterargument right now - but I tried with the whole he should've been in AA and AAA the last few years if you go by his age thing).

At some point, I got into the conversation when someone asked if Brian Bogusevic was a prospect.

So when this dude is like "Man their pitching is [expletive] terrible." I go, "Yeah. Their starters have been pretty decent but the bullpen is horrendous."

He's like, "They don't even have starters. Garza is gone and they don't have anybody else after that. Wood I guess."

So I point out Samardzija and he goes, "Dude, Samardzija is a relief pitcher. He's good for when your starter has to get pulled in the 3rd inning and you need somebody to pitch 5 or 6 innings."

I'm like.. "Uh, Samardzija is like top 5 in baseball in strikeouts (pulled that out of my ass - close enough... i'm not about to try explaining FIP to this guy)." And he's like, "Yeah, strikeouts are exactly what you need out of a reliever."

Later on he's lamenting the hiring of Sveum and making up this story about how Maddux would've been their pitching coach if Sandberg had been hired. I told him I'm pretty sure he was making that up and that Maddux wants to sit his ass at home and probably wouldn't even have come on board with his brother.

More Sandberg lament...he was talking about what a great record Sandberg had in the minors. I said I would never want somebody who would bunt their best hitters to manage my team. He's like, "Why not?"

So I ask him if he had prime Albert Pujols on his team, would he want him bunting at any point. He said he would if there's a runner on first late in the game.

Where do you even begin at that point? I tried to drunkenly say some [expletive] about run expectancy but mainly I thought it was pointless. The Cubs then blew the lead and we were able to agree again that the bullpen [expletive] blows and that was about it.

Granted, this board is higher on the food chain than most, but I'd say the same for some of the worst PSD or Bleacher Nation comment posters.

Excuse me, you don't know me but I've been listening to your [expletive] nonsense for 10 years!

Same guy said that Estes was good in 03.

Hey man, that one start against the Reds was [expletive] epic.

I was there. (seriously)

The national Romo story seems to be along the lines of, "oh, that Romo!" With Cutler there's just this weird vitriol that seems based out of his personality/body language.

Romo and Cutler seem to get similar amounts of [expletive] despite the fact that the Bears are losing (these past few years) when Cutler isn't even playing.

Colin Cowherd's entire first segment this morning was an impassioned defense of his golden boy Romo. It's hilarious how much he white knights the guy
