Speaking of PFF grades...

Nice to see Garza rebound after his worst game of the season. Didn't think Long was that bad; and I thought Bostic and Greene looked worse than how they were rated. Thanks for posting these.

Would you turn Peanut into a safety next year and move Frey to CB?

I'm great with Peanut as a safety. Less enthused about Frey as CB. An early round CB to replace Tillman would be my choice.

Alterraun Verner is a free agent this coming offseason. :)

I hate spending on FA CBs. But Verner is pretty good and still young. Unfortunately, he's having a great year and will be pretty expensive. I'd probably just as soon re-sign one of the current CBs and draft 2 guys (need a starter opposite side, and depth as Bowman and McManis are FAs too).

In that situation, I would draft one early, re-sign one and sign a nickel guy via free agency. No need to draft two.

I'm obviously biased with ATV but he is arguably the best CB in football this year and still very young.

Marshall's obsession with Cutler grows by the day it seems.

Has he even acknowledged McCown at all?

He played damn good for him. Is more required?

Hopefully he spits in his face every time he passes him in the hall.

Does it really matter? He and Jay are obviously really close and he really wants the starting QB to back ASAP, which is, presumably, what everyone else who isn't a meatball wants, too.

Yes. Just today, he said: "Josh doesn't have a C on his chest but he's definitely one of our captains."

I don't think Bostic or Greene were complete disasters. Quietly I think Frey is having a decent season and Slauson is having a good season.

The Bears have to address the Center position in the offseason.

I thought Bostic was good. The 2 biggest runs came at Anderson and Greene.

As for center....I would re-sign Garza for 2 years but plan on having him 1 while you develop his replacement, be it the guy they already have or a draft pick.

Looking at efficiency numbers, the Bears' D is actually holding its own excepting the safeties and pressuring the passer,

You can throw those numbers in the trash, then

Or you could take them for what they are, measures of efficiency without bias.

The D line is good at run stuffing, but once RBs reach the second level the secondary is terrible at cleaning up afterward. Either opposing RBs get 0 yards or 5+.

As pass defense goes, the line has been unable to get pressure, so the better receivers (#1 WR and TE) generally have enough time to get free and get good yards. Safeties are actually generally not terrible against the pass.

Extremely flawed measures in a sport that can't be measured quite so easily as something like baseball when it comes to individual performance.

I trust team measurements better than individual measurements. The numbers I'm referring to are referencing the defense in general, sections of the defense at the most specific.

Zach Zaidman ‏@ZachZaidman 8m

It's been 18 days since #Bears QB Jay Cutler tore his groin muscle in Washington. He's back on the field practicing for first time since.

He was just on the radio, and said he thinks Cutler will play on Sunday.
