Week 7 - Bears (4-2) @ Humanskins (1-3) 12 pm CT FOX

Positive grade in pass coverage. Kinda goes to what I was saying about Bostic. Everyone sucked on run D. I thought he was better than Williams, who was consistently out of position.

I'll rewatch the game and see what I think 2nd time thru.

Williams was relegated to being a 2 down LB was he not? Anderson was getting the Nickel snaps.

I'm kind of excited to see if Bostic can make some standout plays at MLB. If we're gonna take an injury hit, I'd rather it be at LB then CB or DE.

Agreed on all counts. Against Detroit and New Orleans, they were in nickel so much Frey was on the field for twice as many plays as Williams.

What an awful way to ask the question. At least put him in a lineup if you want to get a real sense. Asking it this way biases the question a HUGE amount.

Like every other espn poll.

I think the Bears need to limit Peppers' snaps. Get Paea healthy and you have to play the young guys (Cohen, Tupuo, Minter) inside. Peppers should never be inside. It just takes too much out of him. More is going to be more the rest of the way.

25-30 snaps each for Peppers, McClellin, and Bass/Washington outside. Paea is going to have to go 75-80% of the snaps inside with the young guys splitting time at the other spot. Wootton should get 70% of the snaps at DE and 15% or so inside. Hes's young (unlike Pep) and capable to handle that workload (unlike most of the DL roster).

Are you concerned about over working Wootton? I am, a little. He's been good at times but seems a little fragile.

Not that we have much choice, really. Just asking.

No. He's big, young, and doesn't have much wear and tear on him given that he was a backup until midway through last year and missed a couple years with the knee injury.

Plus its a lot better to overwork Wootton over 33 yo Peppers or 250lb McClellin.

Depends if pulling back on Peppers results in better play when he's in there. If it does, then I agree.

If not though, then I'd rather ride the guy who I know is gone after this year, than put extra miles on legs that I'm going to count on for more years.

These aren't 23 year old pitchers, or even running backs. It's not really a matter of putting extra miles on their legs.

Yeesh - out of 86 eligible safeties, PFF ranks Chris Conte 63rd and Major Wright 85th.

I don't think they'll fool anyone as stars, but they seem more serviceable than that.

I think that Jennings and Tillman help cover up for their issues.

I feel like both have looked much worse this year than last, which might be partially due to injuries and ineffectiveness elsewhere exposing them. Wright especially looks like he's regressed - far more frequently out of position and looking more like a confused rookie.

The complete lack of any pass rush and no tackles exposes the safeties to more threats on the ground and through the air. I'm not sure you can judge them fairly by such a statistical measure through 6 games under these circumstances.

Also from PFF:

Chicago Bears: In Major Wright’s first three years in the league, he has seen his total number of missed tackles increase from zero to six to 10. He is on pace to have that streak continue into his fourth year, as he already has nine missed tackles which leads all safeties.

I feel like it's hard to judge safeties in this defense. In the cover 2, there's clearly a void in the zone between the CB and the safety (right down the sidelines) that good QBs can take advantage of. No S can stop that throw. But I don't think you can have as many 20+ yard pass plays as the Bears have given up (think 3rd most in the league) and say your safeties are playing well. I do think most can be contributed to a combination of the lack of pass rush and the scheme. I feel like Wright and Conte are the only players on the D that have tackled consistently, along with maybe Tillman. And the last 3 games, they've done a pretty good job stopping the big play. Wright coming over late (100% his fault) on the Randle TD on Thursday night is the only serious blemish on the safeties the last 3 weeks. The long throw to Nick Toon was vs. man coverage. The long one to Jimmy Graham was on Briggs biting on a play fake.

I stand corrected. Didn't realize he's missed that many tackles.

This game has a scary feel to it. Reminds me of the Seahawks game last year.

Reminds me of every Redskins game of late. They are never anything special but a bad fit for Bears. RGIII could rack up a ton of fantasy points.

But so should Jay.

Yep. And I'm glad that RG3 isn't the mad runner he used to be. I'd be much more worried with this defense having to defend the read option.

Didn't watch Sunday Night? He looked a lot better this week. Believe he ran for 74 yards and moved in the pocket a lot better. Not getting a pass rush might work better, keep him in the pocket and focus on contain.

And yes, I hate this game. The Skins were in a similar situation last year and really took off at this point in the year (or so). They're probably better than the Giants, who the Bears barely beat, and get to play at home. But the Bears gotta win this game if they are going to be contenders. They're clearly the better team. Schedule turns up a notch after the bye, so this one is extremely important to get.
