I wonder how this would have played out had ARod not had his name leaked from the anonymous 2003 test he took? The one the union assured him that would remain anonymous and not at all be used against him. Without that, this would be his first offense at all, correct? And by offense, I mean clearly he did it, but the only proof they have is from another criminal. Stupid situation.

But again, they aren't punishing him for positive tests. They're punishing him for lying to them and obstructing the investigation

I am drawing a blank on the player who tested positive, and set up a fake website to represent the "company." To try to get away with it. Didn't he get an extended suspension?

That was Melky Cabrera, right?

Yes and I believe he only got 50 games

Correct, and he was tied to biogenesis but they didn't even suspend him for it because he already served 50 games.

The union is being incredibly shortsighted on this because they don't like arod personally. They're allowing the commissioner the unilateral right to suspend a player(who happens to be one of the most well paid in the game) an exorbitant amount on a whim.

I don't disagree with A-rod being suspended a year, but if another player, found to be obstructing the investigation, didn't get an extended suspension, doesn't he have some groundwork to fight from?

I believe the argument was something about an official mlb investigation vs disputing a drug test? It was [expletive] clearly because nobody cares about melky Cabrera but they do about arod
