I will be nowhere near a computer during the game and even if I were I will be in no condition to type. No one is on here trolling or talking trash. The level of butthurt is disproportional.

I think Drew will pick the Bears secondary apart, but our O-line and lack of a running game concerns the hell out of me. If the Bears win I think that means Tulane's own Matt Forte will have had a huge game. Our LBs can't keep up with him.

i'm curious how the Bears fared on those 11 plays they brought in Britton; seemed like a pretty unusual tactic to me at the time

of course we did that last year some with Reiff, but that was to graciously notify the other team we were going to try running the ball, so i don't consider that analogous

Britton was apparently in as a 6th blocker because Martellus Bennett's gimpy shoulder didn't allow him to block well.

Bears DVOA, as you might expect, is coming back to Earth a bit. Dropped from 6th to 11th overall. Offense is 19th overall, which I guess is good relatively speaking. Defense is 11th and Special Teams are 18th. Last year the Bears were 6th overall, 26th on offense, 1st on defense and 6th on special teams.

Wonder if losing the defensive and special teams coaching staff is hurting the Bears. The Bears have finished out of the top 10 in defensive DVOA only one time since 2003, and outside of the top 10 in special teams once since 2000.

Shea McClellin with the worst grade of any 2012 first rounder per PFF: https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2013/10/02/2012-first-rounders-in-focus/

19. Shea McClellin, DE, Chicago Bears

Grade: -7.8

Status: Backup (163 snaps)

Analysis: It’s still early but the Bears have to be concerned with the production (or lack of it) they’re getting from McClellin. Just five quarterback disruptions on the year and a pass rushing productivity score that is the third-worst of all 4-3 defensive ends. Not good enough at all.

How has Reiff done this year? just seen him last week and it wasn't the greatest. I ask this b/c I was pissed the Bears didn't draft him.

PFF says it pretty well:

  • Analysis: Replacing Jeff Backus, he has been somewhat protected by his quarterback doing such a good job of getting rid of the ball, but there’s little doubting he’s been a quiet success. There was a lot of fear about he’d hold up and so far it’s been largely misplaced.

he did get beat up a little by Peppers though

He would have shown more by now if he was going to be a good player.

Maybe they can salvage him in some kind of hybrid LB role? I don't know. But it won't be enough to be able to feel good about him.

It was a bad pick.

Highlights/lowlights:

Doug Free is the highest-rated player on offense, with a +13.7, mostly from his pass blocking.

Jason Hatcher is the highest-rated defense player at +11, but he's been a negative against the run.

James Hanna is the worst offensive player despite just 84 snaps. He's been -4.0 run blocking.

Morris Claiborne has been the worst defensive player. Quarterbacks have completed 16-24 passes for 286 yards and a 107.3 rating.

Tony Romo is a +5.9.

So I'm going to be in Green Bay this weekend finishing up details for my wedding next weekend. I just figured out that the Packers play at the same time because I've been busy doing other things. Think there are any Bears bars in Green Bay? lol...

So far 4 of the 6 "experts" on ESPN.com are picking the Bears. A dude on CBSsports.com is picking the Saints 30-24.

kiss of death when experts pick you in a close game.

I'm considering this game a toss up. Don't like playing the Bears.

Saints offensive stats for 2012-2103:

AVG HOME POINTS SCORED: 31

AVG ROAD POINTS SCORED: 26

AVG OUTDOOR POINTS SCORED: 32

EDIT: The defense was too small of a sample size given that there are only 4 games under Rob Ryan and player turnover.

Oh, yeah.../r/nfl has links to each teams subreddits at the top if you click the logo. Not that it's hard in most cases to figure out the name.

I don't know how this is an argument against the Saints. Aren't they better with Payton calling the plays?

Although I am curious, I don't know where you get "32" for outdoor points for their 6 outdoor games (all road games but ATL and DAL) last year and 1 this year (TB). I get 26.29 points when averaging those 7 games: 27, 27, 35, 14, 38, 27, 16.

Oh well, if it makes you feel better about this Sunday's game, go with the 32.
