If you remove Marvin Jones' 14-yard run on a reverse, the Bears held the Bengals to 49 rushing yards on 20 carries (2.45-yard average).

Granted, AP is a huge step up in class compared to BJGE but still a good sign when you are going against a Christian Ponder quarterbacked team.

Tough run for the Vikes, not having their home opener until week 3.

Cincy is clearly the better team and a much tougher matchup for the Bears. Ponder looked pretty terrible in week 1 with 3 INTs, and actually the Vikings run game didn't look all that great. They might be better against the Bears, but I still think the Bears win by 7 points.

Bears 27 Vikings 20.

They also lose a true home game playing overseas.

good [expletive] those guys

Yup. Still [expletive] pissed the Packers rolled over for them in Week 17. Since that point both teams are a combined 1-4 and the one win was against the other so [expletive] them.

Last night was Dallas' first week one home game since 2006. Weird scheduling abounds

Meanwhile the Bears have started at home the last 4 seasons.

And I know they started on the road in 05, 06, and 07.... Not sure about 08 but I remember being annoyed that they kept starting on the road. Weird.

08 they opened up Lucas Oil Stadium on Sunday Night Football, but they actually opened up 06 at home against the Lions (and absolutely pantsed them)

No. They opened 06 up on the road at Green Bay. They shut them out and a bunch of people won free furniture.

Yeah, they opened in GB and destroyed them, but people weren't that impressed because GB was terrible the season before. I was at game 2, the home opener versus Detroit, which was just a complete laugher of a game.

I saw quite a bit of this game (on the next tv over from the Bears game), and it wasn't nearly as close as the score suggested for most of the game. Except for the big play to start the game by AP, Detroit really stopped the run game. Ponder closed his eyes and threw deep on one play, and Simpson ran under the ball. Fluke play, really. Ponder does seem to have a pretty good rapport with Kyle Rudolph. Anderson might be able to cover Rudolph better than he covered Gresham and/or Eifert.

Detroit ran all over Minnesota's defense, but Detroit had quite a few key penalties or turnovers that killed drives. Stafford had a lot of balls batted down at the DLine.

I think the Bears defense can force some turnovers from Ponder. Stopping AP pretty much stops the Vikings.

Can't believe I forgot about that Colts game. Forte hype train was in full effect after that.

I was kind of tuned out that season, though. I hated Orton and the decision to start him.

Over Grossman? I thought Kyle was pretty decent until he suffered that high ankle sprain against the Lions in November.

Fake edit: Up to that point (including Lions game) here were his numbers:

8 games, 62% comp %, 90.8 Rating, 1777 yards, 10 TD, 4 INT 7.3 YPA

After he returned from the high ankle injury after missing just 1 week:

7 games, 55% comp %, 67.2 Rating, 1195 yards, 8 TD, 8 INT, 5.4 YPA

Of course Orton turned out to be a pretty mediocre QB after given chances with the Broncos and Chiefs but I don't know why someone would have hated Orton coming out of the 2008 season.

All Orton could ever do effectively was move the ball 5 yards at a time. The defense was the reason the team won as many games as they did when Orton was the QB.

It was coming out of the 2007 season....he won the job in 2008 and I immediately lost interest in the Bears. Especially after that sham of a competition with Rex.

As for in 2008, he was fine. I just did not like him and his hot start that year only frustrated me. Never liked him and his complete inability to throw anything accurately downfield unless he was rifling it right down the seam.

I couldn't have been happier when we traded for Cutler.

In 2005.

In 2008 he was sort of good. And this is coming from someone with huge irrational hate for him.

Oh my god why are we talking about Kyle Orton?

Blame UMFan.
