@SmokiesonRadio: Javier Baez was ejected for arguing after a strikeout in the ninth inning. It is the second time that Baez has been tossed this year.

Ump sounds like he has an itchy trigger finger:

@SmokiesonRadio: A couple of Barons are tossed from the game including skipper Julio Vinas after a called third strike. One out, men at 2nd and 3rd for BIR

It was the Barons' catcher that got tossed...wonder if he thought the ump had somewhere else to be today and let him know about it at the end?

I have great tickets for Kane County tomorrow night, but their roster isn't leaving me very interested anymore...think I'm gonna skip out on it. Any reason I shouldn't?

Well, I'll grant you that the roster has lost some luster. It looks like tomorrow is Starling Peralta night. If you catch Peralta on a good night, he could put up dominant numbers. That said, he is way down on the list of Cubs prospects now, despite his electric stuff, because it's just been a bad season.

Leaving aside pitching, Jeimer's still there, and if he ever puts it together, he's still got top level bat potential. Gioskar could still be a good offensive 2nd baseman. Granted, both of them are struggling right now. Wilson Contreras is probably the best backstop in the system (admittedly, that statement by itself doesn't say much), and he does remind me a tiny bit of Welington Castillo. Rock Shoulders still has excellent power. Actually, the hot bat of late has been Marco Hernandez (last 10: .351/.368/.541), who might end up with a season line fairly close to what Arismendy Alcantara did in Peoria a couple years back. I still haven't heard from anyone that Marco's tools have diminished, so I'm still going off what I thought of a tools comparison of the two preseason - that Marco's complete toolset is better than Arismendy's, but Arismendy may have louder tools in certain areas.)

If you have far more important things ... well, heck, slightly more important thing ... I'd probably place a higher priority on doing said things than going to a Cougars game, if the intent of going to a Cougars game is hoping to see a future regular on the Cubs. That said, there's still enough raw upside in Kane County that it's still quite possible that there's a key prospect or two to bloom from this current crop in a year or two (particularly since Daytona is, I'm assuming, still a slightly better hitting environment than Kane County).

Two relatively inconsequential guys are fairly hot - Pin-Chieh Chen has hit much better at Daytona, and Jon Mota has been red hot. Hey, anyone remember why the Mota as a catcher experiment was discarded? It's slipping my memory.

vogelbomb and bryant just went back-to-back and we have ENTERED THE BONE ZONE

Its really amazing we've amassed THIS much power coming thru the system.

Especially when power was the major organizational weakness like two years ago. It's amazing how fast things can change when competent people in charge want them to change.

Of our big power prospects, half were drafted and signed under Hendry.

Ugh, Blackburn again not performing well. I hope he's struggling because they are having him work on a pitch during games.

Not likely, though...

He's been poor since getting hurt.

I know. It's frustrating.

So if Bryant keeps up the current pace in Daytona and destroys AFL, optimistically what kind of promotion schedule are we looking at? I can't even remember the last advanced college bat we've had in the system. Are we looking at a Weiters/Posey type of schedule where he's starting for us at 3B by 2014 all star break?

I am going to assume this was some sort of sarcasm considering it's in response to a reference to Vogelbach, a guy drafted by the prior regime.

Do you think that Ricketts had any influence on Wilken's picks that last year?

If Bryant is on Wieters' or Posey's schedule, he'd get about 200 PA in the minors in 2015 before permanently breaking into the big leagues. I think that's fair and what we should be hoping for.

Sure, he probably told him to start drafting guys that Theo Epstein would like.

but don't tell Jim. oh yeah, you're going to be fired so make this draft your legacy.

It's worth pointing out that Wieters didn't even play in 2007 after he was drafted and Posey didn't have time to play in high-A the year he was drafted. Bryant has a head start on both.

Yeah, the new signing deadline is allowing players to get an additional month and a half. That said, Wieters did play in the Hawaiian Winter League they year he signed, which was a winter league similar to the AFL, but designes more for A-ball players than AA and AAA players.

Wasn't that the year he sat in the draft room?
