Every time I try and temper myself and say "well he's just riding a hot streak right now and things will trend down at some point" (and they will) it's very exciting that he's hitting the [expletive] out of the ball AND improving patience/pitch selection and apparently defense.

I try, but there's three facts that I can't seem to wrap my mind around being simultaneously true:

1) He has the best OPS of any batter to make 100 PAs in the Southern League this year (passed Puig with that HR)

2) He's the youngest batter to have 100 PAs in the SL this year

3) He's getting good reports on his SS defense.

Just one of those three would be enough to make him a squee-worthy prospect.

Good lord. All you can do is shake your head.

That was exactly my reaction after seeing that he homered.

A 2015 opening day lineup of Ellsbury, Castro, Rizzo, Baez, Bryant, Soler, Alcantara, Castillo (or whoever, who cares) sounds pretty good to me.

Not sure Bryant opens 2015 in the bigs though the hope is he makes a strong contribution that season.

Interesting to think about how he would have developed under the old FO.

He'd have around a .700 OPS in 100 ML AB's right now.

It's definitely optimistic, but Baez puts me in an optimistic mood.

Remembering back to Javy playing a bit of 3B and how uncomfortable he appeared, I think I'm ready to move Castro off SS, if it means Javy is happy.

he made it about 5 feet from home plate by the time the ball was 400 feet away

But Castro wouldn't be broken, so call it a draw?

Nah, because Castro will fix himself at some point. Plus, I won't fault the FO for at least attempting to make Castro better. The old regime could turn Baez into Pedro Alvarez instead of becoming an ungodly superstar.

HE JUMPED IN THE AIR AND SLAM DUNKED THE HELMET JESUS CHRIST COULD YOU MAKE ME LOVE YOU MORE

He was on one knee for a solid stare down, then he decided let's do one more while standing for good measure.

Haha. Love Dallas Beeler and Carlos Gutierrez bringing the Gatorade cooler to home plate for a shower.

A couple of days ago, didn't they miss him because he grabbed his interviewer and got him drenched?
