With Torreyes getting dealt, Alcantara playing 2B, and constant rainouts not helping Javy get at bats, I'm predicting a Javy callup within a week.

It is not raining in Brevard County. I repeat. It is NOT raining in Brevard County.

I wonder if the players are confused.

Ha! That'd be great if they all walked out onto the field tentatively, not knowing what to do. Kinda like the guys in Field of Dreams entering from the corn for the first time...

Nice little article on Baez out today on milb.com.

Liked this...

"I'm learning to play the game right," said the ninth overall pick in the 2011 Draft. "Baseball isn't easy."

Baez, though, can make it look like that at times, as when he hit four homers and drove in seven runs in a game against Fort Myers on June 10.

But he had just one hit in the 20 at-bats that followed, and endured an early-season 3-for-26 slump that left him hitting .133 in the middle of April.

"They are working with me to slow things down and not guess at the plate," Baez said. "I'm ready to hit the first good fastball, but I can't chase pitches out of the strike zone."

Baez's bat speed is nearly unmatched, but he has to make his aggressiveness work for him rather than against him. With an impressive June, the native of Puerto Rico has made strides against Class A Advanced pitchers.

Baez hit .300 for the month to get his average to .272, and his nine June homers gave him the FSL lead with 17. He topped the league with 57 runs scored and was fourth with the same number of RBIs after driving in 28 runs over 24 games in June.

It's kind of funny that they almost seem to frame this like it's a bad thing:

But Baez has also struck out 76 times, compared to 18 walks, and he had one stretch where all of his six hits were homers. Everybody who sees Baez, though, comes away convinced that he can be a potent Major League hitter.

I'm predicting that you are not even close to being right. I could see him staying in Daytona all year. Maybe a cup of coffee in AA if he has a July as good or better than his June.

I don't think he's that far off. Theo and Jed both publicly stated a couple of weeks ago that he's making A+ look easy and that that is what they look for when they promote a player.

i-cobs have 4 home runs, including back-to-back-to-back from brad nelson, lake and ty wright. the hooner also hit his first AAA home run, and has also doubled.

szczur is 2-4 with a double and stolen base. i think he's got a fairly high floor as a reasonably solid 4th outfielder. would be nice if he turned into more than that, but he needs to develop some pop.

Per Twitter, The Hooner also made a really nice running catch at the wall.

Boise

Note: A really ugly game. I left early. The only interesting observation was that Balaguert hit an opposite field double (right center 390ft off the very top of the wall).
